It is easy to solve you problem........Replace your stock battery with a Kinetik HC2000 and add 2 Kinetik HC 600's and get rid of your cap.....most caps are "crap" and do not have the power they say they have.........
If you havent heard of Kinetik, i tis the greatest thing out there for systems....all of the big SPL competitors are using them, along with manufacturers like Pioneer, Alpine, JL, Kicker, Orion/PPI/DEI, for there Demo vehicles www.kinetikaudio.com
What kind of watts and all that stuff are you running in your Magnum? I had the same problem and its fixed so let me know what stuff youre running and ill give some advice.
Well RT05 I'm running a Hifonics Brutus 1500watt D class amp, a 1.7 fared Top end neon dual capacitor, an Audio controll Epicenter concert series, and my dash is a Kenwood KVT-717 wide touch screen flip-out monitorw/DVD reciever and 2 12" JBL's but blew one out so now I only have 1 playin untill I can get a new set. as far as total amprage, um I'm not quite sure but I can find out.
Snap. Perfect. I was running the Hifonics Colossus amp so we are dealing with the same things. I have been on many sites discussing this so I will share what things I had to do to stop my lights dimming and my other problems. First, since there arent any bigger alternators available, you have to use a capacitor. 1 or 2 farad is not going to cut it since the alternator is regulated through the computer which in turn is only producing 100 amps at best. However, when I researched alternators, our stock alternator is only giving our stereo about 40 amps to work with since the stock electrical system uses about 60% of the alternator and maybe even more. People will tell you to use as many batteries as you can and that may be correct if you plan on playing ur system with your car off for a long period of time. Do not replace the stock battery. Heres a few things that need to be done to stop the dimming. And the dimming is really a voltage drop that happens when a loud bass note hits but thats probly not what you want me to go on and on about. To save yourself some money i would suggest doing the Big 3 first. Of course im assuming that you havent done this but i could be way wrong. Change the wires of the following to 4 gauge wire: battery (-) to the chassis, the alternator to battery (+), and chassis to engine. And if you are mechanically inclined then heres a step-by-step tutorial http://forum.sounddomain.com/ubb/ult...c;f=5;t=007801
Try that first before spending any money. If that does not do the job well enough to your liking, then go on ebay and buy a Tsunami 40 (fourty) farad cap. That is what I used and it is what Unique Autosports used on their W7 install. Please do not buy any batteries until you try this. Im trying to save you some money here by not having you running out and getting $200+ batteries. Let me know how this works. Wish you luck.
Yes all of the big SPL competitors are using those batteries but for different reasons. The cars MUST BE TURNED OFF at those competitions therefore making the alternator useless. This isnt the case here. Kinetik are the best batteries in my opinion since I am using them, but I play my system with my car off for long periods of time at shows. Otherwise I have no use for them. Caps and the big 3 are the way to go when minor voltage drop is happening.
The Kinetik HC 2000 that will replace your stock battery will be the heart of your system.....it has more cranking amps and a faster charging rate than your stock battery......and the HC 600's are basically 100 farad caps......the upside of using the 600's instead of caps is that they handle more current and voltage as they run at 13.5 volts and above when your car is running and do not discharge as fast as a cap.......Yes most competitors need tons of them for there cars because theye are turned off, but what about the SQ people and the people with the higher end systems that arent worrying about there lights dimming......Do yourself a favor: Call Alpine, Zapco, JL, Pioneer, and ask there techs what they are running in there personal cars.....and notice that these companies dont sell Caps???????? Ever wonder why??????
