Is this what I need to get to put in a new amp?
Hey guys would I already have this with my aftermarket Kenwood Headunit or not? I want to put in my new amp its a 4CH I got thinking do I need more than 4 CH or not? This PAC thing looks like its made for my car and all. How dose it work just plugs in behind the deck, and then you run two differnet sets of RCA's to the amp? or just one set? How dose the Headunit read it im kinda lost, can someone help me??

From the description, it looks like its for a stock system that has an amp. If you dont have a factory amp then you may need more parts. But, your new head unit should have RCA outputs already, depends on how many. If you have 2 or 3 outputs, on the kenwood, then all you need is the adapter harness to hook it up to the factory harness. You wouldn't need that part, in the end all it really does is create RCA outputs. Run your RCAs from the new HU to the amp, speaker wire from the amp to the speakers, amp power and remote to the fusebox. Thats based off a 4 speaker setup.

It would help if you tell us the model of the head unit you are using.
Most aftermarket head units have RCA outputs. Usually for front's, rear's and a subwoofer. If you have RCA outputs and want to run a 4 channel amp you will need to run 2 sets of RCA cables from the head unit to the amp as well as a remote turn on wire from the HU to amp. Then you will ned to wire a power cable from the battery + to amp and a ground from amp to chasis (or battery -) If you do not have RCA outputs, some amps are built with a feature which allows you to use the amplified speaker outputs from the head unit as the input signal into the amp. I know JL amps can do this. Otherwise you will need somethig to convert the amplified speaker outs form the HU into a line level signal. The product you listed looks to be used with th stock stereo so if you have an aftermarket one you will not need it. |

Its in a 06 SRT with the factory Kicker system so yes it has a factory amp that im replaying with a planet audio. My head unit right now is a Kenwood 8019 touchscreen with 5 pre amp out puts. I need somthing so when I take out the factory amp there will be wires under the dash that I will have to plug into somthing i would think?? Im not running all new wire there should be somthing else......

And Im doing a CarPC soon also so im gearing up for that, thats why im replacing the amp so I can plug in the RCA's from both amps to the Computer. But for now it will be going to the Kenwood. So do I need a 4CH amp or 6CH amp? and what do I do with the one thats under the dash? (factroy one) and them wires? Shouldent there be a wireing harness like what you have to buy to plug into the factory wireing for the headunit? or should I already have one of thos with the Kenwood unit?

As far as my logic goes. . .
If you are using both an aftermarket head unit and aftermarket amp then the only wires coming off the stock amp that you should be concerned about are the ones going from the amp to the speakers. The easiest way I can see things being done is that you run RCA's from your head units pre-outs to your new amp and use the existing speaker wires to connect to your new amp's outputs. No wiring harness is necessary, just a few sets of RCA cables will do. And for the old amp . . . i assume it can be removed altogether since it will not be used. As for how many channels. . . if you have 6 speakers you can run the front doors speakers and rears off of a 4 channel amp and run the 3.5's in the dash off of the head units amplified output. If you want more volume/tonal control than using a 6 channel amp or a 4 channel and 2 channel might be better. As for the CarPC . . Not sure what your intentions are but if you just want to be able to run the volume from the computer through your system you can always take the output from the PC and plug it into the AUX in on your head unit and just have all the speaker/amp wiring running off the HU |

I want to louse the Kenwood 100% take it out and sell it. My 7" screen for the car PC will be put in its place then the PC will be in the back or center consel were ever I can fit it. So unpluging the stock amp taking it out, putting in my aftermarket one wont have any check engine lights or codes because its in hooked?? Im sure they make a wireing harness that will plug into the harness under the dash that is in the factory amp right now, and then on the other end have the speaker out-puts, remote turn on wire. That way no cuting or splicing.

I still don't understand what you want this "harness" for.
I guess you are saying right now there are wires coming off of the HU which plug into the existing amp conveniently as one of those wiring "plugs"? And you want to plug something into that which allows you to hook up an aftermarket amp? If that is the case you probably have the front and rear speaker signals as well as a remote wire or can bus line within that plug of wires. I will still put money on it that you are safe going directly from the RCA outputs from your deck to your new amp and ignoring the wires going to the stock amp. As it is you messed with the system when adding an aftermarket HU. Some of the canbus lines that went to the stock radio are not being used on the aftermarket unit and it doesn't throw codes or have problems. Since the "brain" of the system has already been replaced I don't think there will be problems removing the stock amp and wiring everything fresh to the new HU. Maybe someone else can chime in but that is how I would do it, I remember seeing a wiring diagram for the 6 speaker w/ amp setup so when I get a chance I will try find it and maybe it will help. As for the CarPc . . . I don't know how those work but I assume you will have to make sure it has a sound card which will allow you to have front & rear speaker pre-outs as well as a woffer out if you are installing one of those. |

Ok, the can bus still has me worred some. so on the harness under the dash I can just splice into the speaker wires of that amp connector and then run speaker wire to my amp? how many CH. is the factory amp 6? Should I get a 6 CH amp to make it easyer to have eveything work as it is right now with fadeing?
