New Owner with an Electrical question
Is there anyway to tell if the electrical system has been upgraded from stock on a 2005 Magnum 2.7L. The vehicle has a lot of audio gear in it and I wanted to make sure it was up to par.

More or so on the lines of:
I am wondering if I have a stock battery in there. Same question for the alternator. The reason I ask is because I have to replace the battery (car has been sitting for 2 years) And I have no clue how the electrical/charging system is on a Magnum or what it can handle. |

I am by no means an Audio dude. I am completely stock in that area.
Give this a day or two for the experts to chime in. I know that we have some heavy hitters on here when it comes to Audio upgrades. I have no idea what the stock battery rating is, or even if it's consistant from Maggie to Maggie. I don't think that I have heard of many having to upgrade the alternater but the battery - yes. |

battery is in the back under the sub floor kind f hard to tell if the battery was replaced unless its an ultima or something like that you would also see bigger ground wires stock is like 8 gauge not to big at all as for upgrading the alternator not really possible the only other available is for the Police Version which brings the amps up a little bit...
take some pictures of the battery and post them it will be easier to tell if its stock or upgrade |

My bet is the alternator has not been changed (based on the lack of other alternators on the market for the Mag). And if you need a new battery anyway you may as well go for a good one. Kinetic seams to be well favoured around here Kinetik HC Power Cells
The stock system handles fairly well IMO, I have 2x12's and a 500W amp with no issues, but 500watts is not really much. Generally for better preformance go with a new battery or two and upgrade that ground wire! Just red your intro thread and with all the audio stuff in there I bet the previous owner knew what he was doing and the electrical should be fine once you get a new battery. . . If not add a second battery and see how it works. Last edited by Chutsk10; 08-20-2008 at 04:11 PM.. |

Thanks for all the advice. I bought a new battery and everything is fine. Chutsk10 you were correct the previous owner knew what he was doing. Now to get it registered and a tag. I will post some pictures after I wash it in the morning.
