2.7 Double Din Radio install question

Hey all.. my bro has a 2.7 charger with the factory radio.. he went to put in a double din touch screen, but the guy at the stereo shop said it couldn't be done.. I find that hard to believe.. Don't we need just the 2 din bezel? or is there drama that is behind the dash that won't allow for a double din?

Anyone have pics to post up?

Thanks

It can be done, and in more than one way.

I think the easiest would be to find a stock bezel that they use for the Navigation systems. The opening will be a little large but there is a kit made to fill the gap and make for easy mounting.

The other option would involve some cutting of the original non-nav bezel to fit in the 2-din screen.

Either way it is possible.

yes and you would probably need the mounting bracket for the nav system bezel. know you can find them for about 80 bucks. Might consider searching for a mounting bracket for the double din unit... you will probably need that as well. Some guys just chopped theirs and molded the nav bezel into their dash bezel for that factory look. I am doing this with a single din unit right now....

Hmm.. the nav bezel with the 2 din kit sounds easy.. well easier than molding!! Sweet work.. thanks for the input.. So there is nothing different behind the dash that would give me drama, right?

The only thing really behind there besides the radio is a white plastic brace of sorts. If it works with your new unit i'd just keep it. if not feel free to pull it out it doesnt really do much.

as for the Nav bezel you can get a stock one at mopar super center among others. This was one of the cheaper / easiest to order i would think.

You will need a mounting kit as well. I found this metra on the sonic website. Fell free to shop around but the model number will be the same.

You will want a powering harness as well...... One to either bypass the amp or use the factory amp....

^^^ I was going to find you some links but I was at work. . . then I forgot haha

All you need is listed above, with th bezel and mounting kit you don't have to do any mods to anything and should be a quick install.

I opted to trim the white spacers to give support in the back. But I also used the fact nav bezel with no problems..

Ive since painted the bezel

^^-- Hey thats me hahah, I did that wayyyy back when before they even had the NAV DDIN kits. Had to fabricate 2 mounting brackets, bent metal over curb, ugly as hell but works.
