Swapping out a REC w/nav for aftermarket
Help, need some help from the audio gurus on this site, I have an REC w/Nav, and my Navtec disc is shot, well to get a new disc is $200, so for that kinda change, think it is worth looking at an upgrade, I want to have a Nav system, upgraded stereo, having a DVD player would be nice but not a must have. What can you guys tell me?? And with the stock NAv, where is the GPS reciver located at? I am thinking center of dash right by the windshield, a small disc about 1.250 inches in diameter??

The currently loaded maps are from mid/late 2007 though. I only know one person who bought the july08 update and we still havent found a single difference... at least in the areas we checked. |

I didn't pay for it, and the guy who did has more money than anyone should. But let me know where!!!!!!! Wait... are you talking about the mygig 9.807 update? That doesn't touch the maps. The navteq update is what i am talking about. I already did the download/update to 9.807. |

Hey Rip that thing on your dash is the auto headlight sensor (I believe...maybe its the EVIC outside temp sensor, cant remember which).
You can get a new nav disk (even with the in-motion hack) from a couple guys over on LXF (I'll PM ya). I think the REC is a good unit, and I like it because it looks factory and has the steering wheel controls. I bet if I played with a top shelf aftermarket unit I may think otherwise though....touch screen would be nice |

Hey thanks Paul, I will be looking for that PM, I really don't want to give up the stock head unit, it does everything I want and I also have the Ipode interface, so I don't want to start over with that, but $200 for a disc, that is a long way to a new unit, if I can do better than that, with the inmotion hack to boot, well, that may make me rethink it, and I agree, if I had the bucks for hi end Pioneer Avic or such, well might change my mind.
