I have a 1/0, 4, and 8ga setup. From the battery, I have 1/0 through a t-block (to splice in with the main power cable) around the spare tire well to a dual fuse block. One fuse is dedicated for my cap, and the other is dedicated to a distribution block to power my amps. From that fuse block, I am using 4ga to the cap and 4ga to the power distribution block. My power cables at the amps are 8ga cables and the grounds are 4ga setups. A larger ground will allow for a better flow of clean power for better amp performance. At the ground distribution point, my 4ga wires merge to a short 1/0ga wire. Here is a diagram of what I have put together for my system:
If your battery is in the back of the car like mine, you don't need to run it through the firewall. Most of the wiring should be done in close proximity. If you are running your connection from under the hood, follow the skirt line to the back. From there, you should be able to punch a hole under the rear seat (preferrably where the seat folds and run it back from there. If you run it along the passenger side of the car and into the cab at that hole, you can follow the cable tray if you are placing you amps in the spare tire well, or you can pop a hole in the tray and mount your components there.

You do need to run wires from the front to back if you have an upgraded alt or dual alts like im gonna be running.... the stock electrical did not intend for a 10,000w rms stereo system to be installed....
Yeah, I see what you mean. Have you ever looked into capcells? Extra batteries and caps are good, but capcells may help you out wih that much power and a major alt upgrade. Have you thought about looking into limo or RV alts or Stinger audio alts? Instead of running two, you may be able to use one HO alt.
Tring to load the pics off my phone. But pop your hood look on top of the fire wall on the driver side pop the cover off and look beside the brake booster and you will see the rubber groument with wires already comming out of it. Pull it out and there you go. It's enough play in the wires for you to pull it towards the engine bay. Will post pics as soon as I can.
^^ I know what you are talking about Big H. I wouldn't pop it out, unless you are trying to pop a hole in it and use it like a grommet. If you remove it and run the wire through, you may cause a little rubbing and eventually, cause a short.
