2 ohm & 4 ohm load on same amp - Audio guys HELP!

Experimenting with 2 different size subs pushing different frequencies to add to dynamic range in the mag...

My question is, on a dual channel amp that is capable of 2 or 4 ohm loads safely, can I safely run a 2 ohm load on one channel and 4 ohms on the other? I'll handle output levels elsewhere... just want to know if that's going to kill my amp.

Thanks!

They are going to be pushing different frequencies at different levels.
I just didn't know how the amp would react to different ohm loads on different channels.

depends on the amp for the most part two channels means the amp has two separate circuits so you can run a 2ohm and 4ohm.... just check with the manufacturer i know JL amps are made to only put out the rating so if it says 250 it will only put out that much regardless of the ohm load as long as it falls between 1.5 - 4ohms

This is a good old workhorse RF Punch amp thats rated at 200rms per channel at 2 ohms, 100 at 4 ohms. Pretty sure it's separate amp circuits per channel.

It is safe to do. Keep in mind that your 2 ohm load on one channel is causing that channel to work harder than the other. If you are running at full volume a lot, you may blow one of your channels. One way of setting this up to benefit both is to use one channel for the 2 ohm load and bridge the other speaker.

Also keep in mind your going to roughly double your power on the 2 ohm channel...

What are you trying to do specifically

i dont think the old Punch or even the newer transanta (sp)? circuitry ever were impedance matching circuits... i had an old dsm and called RF to bench test 5 off the line, it got anywhere from 900-1160 watts RMS @ 1 ohm mono.. they were impressed- this was before the digital "cheater" amps came about. Just remember as a rule of thumb, electron flow is neg-to-pos, fuse your GROUND wire with same amp rating as whatever's on your hot side, to avoid toasting your amp. it cant kill your breadboard if it cant reach it. i used 80A's on mine all around.
