Nav Joystick Fixed!@

So last night i bit the bullet and did my first solder job.. on the joystick of the nav unit!@ The original decided it wasn't going to work anymore.. lol It wasn't as bad as i thought i would be thanks to Mr. iNCREDIBLE from LX forums. I followed his writeup and everything worked out great. only thing i didn't do was use the longer factory stick (you will see what i'm talking about in the writeup).

I didn't take pics, he has it pretty much down, so here is the thread i followed. Took about 1.5 hours, becuase i never used a solder gun or solder removal tool before@! lol i was soo scared i was going to screw up the whole Navi unit@!

now.. on to the next mod.. if the rain will stop!@

Nice! Way to go Foss! Good work! I always thought it was strange that the joystick as a press-click, but it doesn't do anything. Would be really nice if you could click the stick instead of pressing the enter button!

So far, I have never used my Navigation unit. Don't know much about it either! I just received the updated and unlocked version and haven't even tried it yet! Do either of you have the updated Nav disc???

I've got both the updated nav disc and I've replaced the joystick.

I was sweating bullets when I did the joystick but it all turned out for the best.

The joystick is sweet.

Cheers,
Burleson

Good Job! I know how scary it can be but, if anyone ever needs it done. you could ship me the parts and the unit...I have ALL the soldier stations here at work, I kinda do it for a living when I am in the mood, (haha) and I would gladly change out the parts for you....

Anyone know a suitable replacement for the joystick now? The link in that forum (mouser.com) has discontinued that part. Anyone know what has replaced it? Thanks!
