My setup. A sort of practical system.
I figured that it would be a good idea to share my system with you guys. I am planning on quite a few upgrades to my audio system this year including CDT speakers, RobbyHo's Enclusures with Soundsplinter Subs, Maybe an RF360.2.
I purchased this car last year at this time. It took me a couple months to install some of my old components which consisted of Rockford fosgate amps (from 10 years ago!), MB Quart separates for the doors, Boston 6x9s for the rear, and a pair of 10w6 subwoffers in one heck of a "hooptie" $75.00 enclusure. It sounded good to me and made me feel pretty good about spending all that cash years ago. In fact, I plan on keeping the Amps. This weekend I added (after waiting forever for them) a pair of CDT hd63 mids with the braxial mounted 1" tweeters, I also purchaed the upgraded satnet xover which will allow me to add a pair of tweets to my dash for even better imaging. Anyways, On to the pics as they are worth more than words. Old Mb Quarts, (for Sale BTW) New CDT driver next to the old MB quart driver. Not much of a difference in mid until you see the magnets. I had to build a template to accomidate the 6.3/4" driver. Oddly, I made the quart drivers fit with a couple hold modifications. But the CDT was too deep and needed both holes to mount and spacing. I used a jasper hole guide with a dewalt plunge router to make the template. Then, I used that template to make a pair of spacers out of plywood. The CDT driver w satnet 560 xover Here are the wood spacers, I painted them w/ silver metal finish paint and clear wood sealer. I used 3/8" speaker seal tape on both sides of the spacer to seal the driver off at the doorplate. You can get this stuff at partsexpress.com You cannot eevn tell its wood! And the driver fits perfectly without any rub from the doorpanel. The result..., Sweet! It was a cold rainy day on Sat, but I had to get it done. There were a few initial problems with the CDT order, I got a box with a set of broken speakers then had to send them back and wait for another set. Their custome service could be better, and try to find an online dealer to help you. Good luck with that. However, they make a damn good product. I pumped The Grateful Dead's "Blues for Allah" CD 1st. I could not believe how nice the tweets sounded compared to the metal ones on the Quart drivers. My next upgrade, A set of RobbyHo's rear pocket enclosures with Sound Splinter 10" subs. In the mean time I will dig up some pics from the initial install. Right now, these comps are running off of a rockford fosgate 100.4 (100 watts x4) amp from waay back in the day. Teh amps are almost 10 years old but they just dont make them like that anymore. I plan on sandblasting the amp covers and painting to match the mag (bright silver). I use the original 6 disk mp3 deck with a PACLOC to go to low level RCAs. The PACLOC creates a mild hiss that most people dont hear (except me ofcourse). Thats why I may get the RF 360.2 for line out. If I dont do that, I may shove 2k into a dvd, nav deck.

It looks like the enclosures will be done very soon! I have ordered a pair of soundsplinter rl-i10 drivers for the pocket enclosures. I did allot of research and tried my best to shop for exactly what I wanted without breaking the bank. The JL10w6 was my 1st choice but the cost was way too high.
