New Speakers
So Saturday I decided it was time to start upgrading the sound system in the Magnum. I ran down to the local sound shop and picked up a couple pairs of Infinity Reference 6x9's, figuring it would be a quick and easy swap. Come to find out it wasn't. 6 hours later and 7 dremel bits later, I finally was able to cut down the metal mounting plates in the rear to install them. WHAT A PAIN..... You would think it would have been easy, but Dodge seems to have their own idea of how big a 6x9 should be. Well worth it though.

Great info Greg...as I am about to do the same thing!! I wonder if it would be easier just to make new plates out of ABS or something. So, they sound much better?? That was my concern, that short of adding new amps, speaks and subs that just speakers wouldn't make that much of an improvement...glad to hear it does!

I changed out my head unit...you can use a line converter off the back two speakers thats what I did before now I have this setup
dvd,mp3,mp4,wma player Precision Power EQ - PEQ114 Precision Power Crossover - OMX432 Precision Power 4100AM - powering 4 3.5" coax and 1" tweets Precision Power 4200AM - Powering 4 6.5" mids Precision Power 2150AM - Powering 1 10" sub As soon as I have the money I'm going with two Kicker or JL Audio 8" subs in the back I think the 8 hit hard and tight at least they did in my last ride I pist off a few people when they hit harder then there two 12's......ha ha next time build a better box......... |

Its amazing the difference that the new speakers make. I would recommend taking the time to remove the back seats and remove the whole back panel so you can remove the metal mounting places though. I was just to deep into the project and it was to late to tear the whole car apart. Its a job that should be done yourself. The satisfaction is amazing.

Thank you both for the great info! Yes, I am definitely a do-it-myself kinda guy, in fact 20 yrs ago I was a car stereo installer. The equipment has changed somewhat since then, but the process is basically the same. And yes Bigal, it's ALL about the box!!

Doin the install on mine this weekend, Pioneer 720PRS components with a DLS 2.5" dome mid up front and a single 10" in the storage tray area. No rear fill for now. All of it run off a Helix HXA500 MKII. I am leaving the factory headunit for now with a Rockford Fosgate 3sixty(leftover from the last car). I cant wait, the factory speakers absolutely suck!!!!
