Amp Cooling Fans Install
I am looking to see if anyone has installed fans to cool amps that are installed under the factory fold-up panel in the back. Any PICS or advice would by appreciated.

im in need of the same thing Im in the beginning stage of research I will let you know what i find....so far i have to ideas..
1) have my amps elevated with 4 fans in the bottom two pushing two pulling.. 2) big fans in the false floor again two on one side pushing two on the other side pulling..maybe doing some duck to force air across the fins. Ive seen people use plexi glass on the bottom with fans and mounting heat sinks on the transistors...they put the fan on one side pulling and over the heat sinks they driled holes this forces the air right on the heat sinks.. one thing make sure you use brush less fans they dont make as much noise in the electrical system........ |

I have built a fiber-glass box that holds 4, 12" subwoofer. The box covers all of the back fold-up floor. I installed the amps under the false floor...and they get super hot. I wonder if there is a way to build some big fan box in the wheel-well storage thing ...?

the problem is you need a source for fresh air what you can do is......the side pockets have that cover that will come off you need to remove the sides and grind some plastic welds this will give you a gap on either side for venting i would put one of the following in each side one pulling and one pushing you can build some little walls to force the air in the direction of your amp..

..but I'm gonna put my subs in those side pockets.....
How much cooling do the amps really need? I was a high end installer 18-20 years ago and we never went overboard on amp cooling. we would hide amps under seats, etc (ads, alpine, etc) and they would never shut down from heat. I would think that maybe simple vent grills cut into the top of the cargo cover would probably suffice....are you guys running HUGE hi-power amps?? |

Im running old school Precision Power Amps my bass amp is a 2150AM it puts out 150x2 4ohm or 300x2 2ohm or 300x1 4ohm or 600x1 2ohm I have it bridged right now running a 4 ohm load and it gets hot under the floor i have three amps with no fresh air so that doesnt help..it does go thermal but im going to make a new false floor with the three amps showing through i will also put cooling fans pushing and pulling the air from under this will fix my problem.......
