    Trunk Change Up....Suggestions....

Last year, I made 3 mdf cuts for a new false floor....

Now I want to take out that black material that I covered the enclosure and floor with. (It's not sticking well and I'm tired of it).

I went to Home Depot today and I'm thinking of getting some vinyl wood plank flooring and putting that on the mdf. With the enclosure, I'm thinking of wrapping it in vinyl (some color to match whatever floor I get).

Has anyone seen something like that, with the wood floor, vinyl wrapped box mix?

Any other suggestions....I'm open to all ideas.

I haven't seen it done but if you colour match the vinyl I think it would look pretty good, better than a wood floor with non-matching black/grey box (I have seen that and it's not a very cohesive look). Maybe some of that "Tolex" stuff (the material used to cover guitar/bass amplifiers) could be a substitute for vinyl. It comes in a variety of colours and textures.

is it a vinyl floor or "real" hardwood? I've seen members do real hardwood on here and it looked great, but none of them had subwoofer enclosures. I am undoubtedly going with hardwood on the mdf. I think I'll just take a strip of the flooring to Jo'Ann Fabrics and see what kind of material I can match with it.

I have done real hardwood, well laminate, and I have a sub enclosure. I covered my enclosure in hardwood as well so it would all match but it was a little tricky doing the box that way. Like I said, I think a matching vinyl would be a decent alternative.

I just Google searched "Tolex" and that link was one of many that came up. You might be able to find more options/ cheaper prices if you look around.

I am sure you have seen the pictures somewhere here but there are a few in this thread:

    Frosted me some (Plexi)glass.

I was going for more of a "vintage" look with the speaker covers in there.

EDIT: Here is my build thread, it might give you some ideas on the wood floor construction.

You might consider using wood veneer. I am currently doing a wood floor and sub enclosure and will finish it with a rare veneer called harewood...it's actually silver in color. One advantage to using a real wood product is that you can stain or dye it nearly any color you choose. With the dyes the woodgrain is still very evident, even under a dark blue or black color.

If you want everything to match, try looking into formica (I think that's how you spell it). That way you can have the box and the floor match. And it's pretty durable stuff too.
