help anyone please
I installed a system in my magnum to the factory head unit a couple months ago. When i first installed it sounded so good, but it seems like in the past week or so it doesn't sound as good. Could it be it's just freezing cold outside or that my lights dim bad when the bass hits and it's starting to take a toll. Should I invest in a cap or is there any other advice to try and see what's going on. Any help would be great.

well if your over powering the sub it could degrade the sound after a bit it will stop working all together...hopefully not the problem
your battery could be an issue first off the best thing you can do is replace the battery ground the car comes with a pathetic excuse for a ground once you replace that you will notice a difference your light will dim but not as bad...you can also upgrade your battery dry cells charge faster which in turn helps with your problem a cap would also help a little.. the degrade in sound could be coming from a bad ground double check your wiring remember to long a ground from your amp is bad as well make sure you check the recommendation from the manufacturer... low budget rca cables or a LOC going bad could cause some problems as well........ |

As Bigal stated, cheap wiring could also cause this issue. A capacitor is def. something to invest in. I believe 1 farad is needed for every 500 watts ... so do the math and figure out how many farads you will need....

Some of the obvious things you would want to check are as follows:
1. Test the amp in question to see if it has adequate input voltage 2. Test your subs to insure they are still working properly 3. Make sure you have good audio signal levels into the sub amp |

Dont waste your money on a cap...Im runnin a cap on my setup and the lights still go very dim at night when i have it turned up. I may be the cold weather, i was thinkin the same thing on the way home from work tonight. I had it cranked and sounded way below par...but if u are gonna beef up the power, start with a battery like a optima yellow or red top and then run a 2nd battery behing that...

supplies all of power to the audio system. The stock battery in your car may not be up to the task of running a stereo with multiple (or large) amplifiers if it can't supply enough current to the amplifiers. Upgrading your current battery to a larger model may help solve the problem because batteries like the Optima 800 offer a larger number of cold cranking amps. Generally, adding a second battery is great if you want to listen to your stereo with the car turned off (and be able to start the car again later!). This is accomplished using a dual-battery isolator: a device which allows the second battery to be charged by the alternator, but prevents the amplifiers that are connected to the second battery from drawing any power from the main battery. Installing a second battery may be done instead of upgrading the main battery. |
