Yeppers. Also, some music only have bass on one side, listen to some of the first Van Halen cds and you will hear the bass on one side. If you tap on the left speaker and the bass in mixed to the right, you will be losing out.

Look in the amp manual it should tell you what leads go to what speakers(L/R & +/-). You just tap into the speaker wiring and run the lead to the "Speaker Level" input to the amp. The only drawback to this is that the HU can overdrive the built in converter. This can also happen to the cheap charlie converters that can be bought at the generic stores. There are some good ones out there with leds that show overdriven and have adjustments to limit the ovedrive.
Also if you have the BA system, the rear speakers are crossed-overed to take some of the bass out. Since they dont have enclosures, bass can ruin them easily. The doors are the bass producers in the BA systems, they are crossed over as a low pass. These are the ones you want to tap off of.
If you have the plain jane 4 speaker system, then all the speakers are full range and it dont matter which ones you tap off.
