Same 6x9's I've had in the back, I put them in a speaker box and suddenly they are making a crackling sound! They hit harder than before, but that damn noise makes it sound like $*!T!!!
Could be a loose/bad connection. Wire moves a little bit, makes weird noises. Or there blown. Or there's a midget with a crack pipe hiding in the back, with a piece of chalk to wright you name on the ground at gas stations with.
wow..... maybe a burst of too much power at once could do it too... Hey SM.... you blow those??? Did you amp them up when you put them in the box? or were they just from the head unit?

they are hooked up to the amp, i think its what XcBellx said.... the box has no air holes but my hubby used to have the box in his truck and never blew his speakers - why would it blow these?
Cant really say it blew them without hearing what they sound like but you may have gotten a surge from your amp....???? Were they amped before? Usually when I change something with power ... I turn the amp down...then adjust after I get it hooked up. But first ... try them with no amp...if they sound bad that way... probably blown
