Question if this part is actually needed

I have installed many aftermarket decks in many cars since this is my first Dodge, was wondering if this device which says it retains the factory Can-Bus is actually needed?. What would not work if i did not use this?

If you want to plug and play a new deck into the factory wiring you will need the canbus harness. I'm sure you could get a wiring diagram and cut and splice a ton of wires but most folks use the adapters
