First off, I want to thank everyone for the plethora of information on this forum. As for my question...I am looking to upgrade the rear speakers in my 2007 SXT, however, I keep getting conflicting information as far as a possible size. Everything I have said recommended NOT using a 6x9 as a replacement due to the fact that there may not be enough room. However, I took out my factory speakers and noticed that they are in fact 6x9's. I would like to know:

I called crutchfield and was told that the depth of the location where the factory speakers are is not deep enough and crutchfield recommeded to use 6.5s, there are some magnum owners here that are running 6x9's on the rears. I am in the same situation that you are in, so I am still in research mode. Good Luck with the upgrade!

When I replaced my rear speakers, I noticed that they were 6X9's. In fact, I needed to buy an adapter to install my 6 1/2 inch components. They are not that difficult, but then again I was installing this in an '05 not an '07. There may be a few differences between the two, but not sure. The size depends on what you're looking for. If you want 6X9's then go for it, if you want 6 1/2's then go for that! I would recommend JL Audio, Boston Acoustics or Alpines. Kappa's are nice, but I would take Boston Acoustics over them ANYDAY! Oh, and GET AN AMP for the speakers, it makes ALL the difference in the world. If you're gonna upgrade the speakers, you might as well give them the power they need to sound great!

Thankfuly my SXT had the 6speaker boustin acoustics, all I did was add a 12" kicker solobaric, 600W MTX amp, and added a bunch of dynamate on my rear 6x9's they rattled alot when the bass was up... Although now my hatch rattles from the outside, if your standing outside with even a low volume I can hear the very top of the hatch rattling... has anyone experienced this with alot of boom in the trunk? I have the sub positioned like the stock sub... Should I pull the lining of the hatch off and dynamate the top to see if it helps? or try and tighten the hatch skid plate?
Sorry, not trying to jack your thread... what 6x9's are you currently using? have you seen these? MOPAR |

Thanks for the quick responses. I realize that I will get the most amount of performance with the use of an Amp, but it isn't in my budget right now. These (Infinity Kappa 693.7i 6"x9" 3-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com) are what I am looking at right now. Anyone aware of any mounting issues that I would face? If I would have to grind out the edge of the speaker mount, is there any way I could buy a replacement - so I could easily go back to stock?

so is there very much depth to the rear speaker mounting compartments? i have not had a chance to take mine apart yet as i havent had the car very long, when i purchased mine all the speakers sounded terrible an the dealer replaced them all via a TSB, i was still considering replacing the rear 6x9s with some 700w boschmanns that i have had for a while and never had a chance to use, i assumed there was a tonne of room in there but now this thread has me a bit worried. anyone have any pics of that rear compartment with the stock speakers removed?
here are the 6x9s i wanted to use ![]() ![]() |

this is the stock mounting location i added a 1/4 inch ply and mounted a 3.5 and 6.5....as you can see there wouldnt be anything getting in the way of a 6x9 the stock pieces are very small for 6x9 and as Greg said you will more then likely need to cut some of the stock metal ring...
stock ring after cut ![]() new speaker test fit ![]() test mount with carpet ![]() back in the car ![]() |
