Pioneer AVIC d3x
Hey in AVIC GPS Installers,
I was looking through the Posts and came across several people who installed the Pioneer AVIC D3x GPS/DVD/Stereo. It appears there are a few more parts required during the install that doesn't come with the unit. I know I will need: 1) The Nav Radio Bezel 2) The Antenna Adapter (If I already have XM radio antenna and system, do I still need to purchase the Pioneer option XM kit? 3) What plug and Play wiring harness do I need if I only have the base stereo and 4 speaker system? I heard this was cheaper than the one required for the system with the amp. anyone got a part number?? 4) Does the wiring harness I purchase in any way affect how I will perform the Bypass Option on the AVIC wiring harness? 5) Double DIN Installation kit. Does the White Plastic piece shown in the picture get replaced with a bigger one from the installation Kit. 6) Does the GPS antenna NOT have to be in clear view of the sky. I read one installer just placed the antenna module inside the dash above the vents and was getting good reception?? 7) Who's got the cheapest legitimate deal on the AVIC d3x? Please chime in if you know anything I've asked in Bold text above. Thanks |

I just did my install but I have the Boston Acoustics system and stuck with that. I had the Metra CTH-01 harness which was 1/2 off from Crutchfield with my purchase.
4 -- the bypass is done on the harness from the AVIC so it won't have any impact on your wiring harness. You are moving one pin from it's current position to a different position in the plug and grounding that and the parking brake wire. 5 - I completely removed the white plastic piece in the dash -- I'm not sure what purpose it serves in the first place 6 - I put my GPS antenna on the roof under the headliner and ran the wire across the front (under the headliner) down behind the pillar and under the dash to the H/U -- plenty of cord there. 7 -- that price someone posted in my thread from Fry's is about $100 lower than I got from Crutchfield with the rebate but Crutchfield threw in the IPod adapter (about $30) and the Bluetooth adapter (About $100 I think) -- not sure about Fry's |

Thanks MadDad..Maybe I'll just call Crutchfield and ask them what harness I need for the basic Speaker system. Someone on the LX Forum said they only paid $12 for the harness since he didn't have the factory amp. v.s $60-$70 for the other ones out there. It sounds like the mounting hardware and antenna adapter are fairly cheap.
So it sounds like the antenna does not need to be visible to the outside?? I just need to find the silver Nav Bezel now. The prices are all over the place. Some guys paid $20 -30 and Ebay has a few for $100 -120. I found it at moparstore.com for $73. Thanks again |
