amp wattage help
so i've got my subs, now i just have to choose an amp (on payday) so i can install my new trunk system. my issue lies in figuring out how much wattage i need (really more how little i can get away with for now).
so here's the subs i've got, and futureshop's site claims 150w rms, 300w peak, but i've seen different different places. this is the spec sheet from mtx themself. and remember i have 2! i also will never come close to running them full blast ![]() http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products...ta_MZS1004.pdf |

A mono 300 watt RMS@2ohm amp will be all you need. If your subs are both 4 ohm then you will wire them in parallel to get a 2ohm load. You should always use the RMS values when your matching up power to equipment. That will ensure you don't fry anything expecially at super low frequencies. The speaker ohmerage changes as the voice coil moves in and out of the magnet, try it. Hook your ohm meter up to your sub and move the cone in and out. The lower the frequency the lower the ohm's and the more likely you will either reach the thermal limit or the mechanical limit of the speaker. That's what they mean when the spec's say nominal after them. It's when the speaker is just sitting there on the table and you hook then meter up to it. You will actual get a reading of 3.9-3.8 ohm's for you subs. I've never seen one that is actually 4 ohm.
