Base radio HU wiring?
So I just pulled out my radio to see what I am looking at for the weekend deck install hoping that it would be a simple switch of the plug from one HU to the next but unfortunatley they are different.
Just wondering if there is a plug and play harness to go from the stock system plug to a single DIN run of the mill aftermarket HU? Also, does anyone know/ have the wiring schematic of the stock wires (ie. which color wire is for what) just incase I can't get my hands on a plug and play harness? Thanks |

The harness isn't expensive.
If you buy one it has the color codes on the package. The only things you're gonna have to look for are a switch source and an illumination source (if the unit uses it and you want to use it). You'll also need the antenna adaptor and the mounting kit. Good luck. |

I know thy aren't expensive but if I can't find on locally I would rather just cut and solder the existing wires to the harness I do have that fits into my HU. I don't want to have to wait a week to have one mailed in so if anyone knows the wiring layous that would be great.
I have the plastic install kit and will have to look into the antena thing I suppose. Also, what do you mean by switch? and illumination source? I installed my other radio a few yars ago and figgured that stuff out but it has slipped my memory. |

Ok so i thought I would read some posts now that I startd a new thread and I think I understand. . . kind of.
The stock stereo is wired so that it stays on once the car is off and will shut off when a door is opened. . . is this function controlled by the computer and not transferable to an aftermarket unit? Sooo powerwise if I am not mistaken there are two constant 12v sources and no ACC. . . So can I connect the two constant 12v sources to the 12v on my harness? Then connect th ACC on the harness to the cigarette lighter and switch the fuse over in the rear to make this switching power? Connect grounds to grounds obviously. What about the two CAN bus lines. . . just tape them off and not use them for anything? |

Humm no audio ethusiasts out there today?
3.57MagnuM I noticed you had similar questions and your thread doesn;t really result in definitive answers. . . I bet you have the install complete so maybe a better description of the power/ ACC install would be well appreciated. . . |

I used the cig lighter in the ash try for the switch source. I'm not sure if only the cig lighter in the ashtray is affected when doing the fuse move. The radio staying on after ignition is off and going off after door opens is just part of the normal circuitry I assume since my aftermarket hu does the same thing. The canbus lines just get taped off. There is no use for these with just a regular head unit that I have found so far. The way I installed my unit is switch power ( usually red from the aftermarket hu ) to the cig lighter and the constant power ( yellow ) to the constant on the factory harness. The illumination source on aftermarket hu's dim the display backlighting when your running lights are turned on. Same as the stock player at night. To use this feature I tapped into the illumination line that runs into the harness for the esp/hazard switches. Other than that everything else should be a breeze. As far as color codes are concerned I ran into some threads by jamminwagon that has the audio schematics posted. Hope that helps you out. |
