I currently have an '06 SXT RWD. I love the car but where I live (mountainous Arizona) it becomes a liability when it comes to the snow and ice we get up here. I have been looking at the AWD models and love the thought of an AWD Magnum but I want to hear from current owners as far as the good and the bad of those models. Any thoughts??
IMHO, the only issues I have is that I can't light up the rear wheels on my AWD and the gap between tire and fender is ridiculous, but the trade off is well worth it. I just got back from a week away, the day I left there was 8 inches of snow on the road and the whole area was paralyzed, I jumped in and went and drove 350 miles in crappy weather, not a care in the world. There was no one else on the road either. I have an 06 AWD R/t and wouldn't trade it for anything.
I love my AWD (06 R/T). In Northwest Indiana, the winters can be rough sometimes. No need to worry with the AWD in the snow.
I love my AWD...! I wish I could find more suspension parts... I would love to spin the rear a time or two...

Love my AWD! I have pretty well modded over and without any issues. I can't tell you how well it goes in the snow, as it sits in a barn all winter for the last three winters. I did have to drive it twice in the snow the first winter I had it and it was fine, 'no' handling or traction issues whatso ever. Even doing AWD donuts in a parking lot, the BAS straightens you right out.
Just wish I could do a burnout from time to time, but my tires thank me for not!

soooo, u guys CANT slide around turns???? ERRRRRRRRRRT
I kinda wish I had an AWD.... then I press ESP OFF, spin em, n feel better about not driving in the snow
If you get a predator and disable the ESP it's easy to get it to slide if you know how to drive it in order to do that.
We had a big blizzard last year and even with about 1 1/2 feet of snow on the road I still wasn't worried about getting stuck. There was cars getting stuck all over the place in front of our house, but mine drove through the snow like it wasn't even there. I have a '05 R/T AWD.
My original plan was an AWD R/T but found out I could not ruin the tires!! so I got the RWD instead!! haha.......I have heard nothing but GREAT thing about the AWD on the LX chassis.....

Although I dont have the R/T AWD as other members do I love my SXT AWD. Decent on gas and as everyone else has stated, great in horrible weather. I wish I could get my hands on the R/T AWD until I remember how much of a heavy foot I am. I think Riperoo hit it on the head. Fender gap is ridiculous.

There is a great write up on some coilovers in the AWD section. I would love those. No problems with our AWD except tire wear from the crappy continentals. I'd like to upgrade to some 22's to help with the gap.

my awd was amazing
the only time it got stuck was when my broinlaw hit a drift higher than the hood, he had to use it to go to work and im nice sometimes
never got stuck
and if you turn esp off, and take a turn quick, they all do spin
the sxt awd's also have the r/t style brakes
it was a fun car, could go through fields just like it did on pavement
tire gap is a bit excessive, but theres a guy here in maryland who makes lowering springs for the sxt's, as the r/t and 300c ones wont work
if you want, pm me for his email
Ahhhh VTEC, all of the lag, none of the turbo....it's like waiting for bad sex
Kinda makes me wish i found an AWD version from hearing all these good things. Even a RWD will handle ok n snowy weather if u know how to drive properly. In an RWD vehicle, u cant be goin all fast n crazy or you will definitely slide out..lol. I believe the weight of the magnum helps it to stay planted down on ice or snow even with RWD. It snowed up here and there was this lincoln or crown vic in front of me keep sliding like crazy. I was thinkn, if that dummy only let off from pressing the gas so hard, it wont slide like that. I saw mustangs that couldnt handle the snow AT ALL. They kept sliding all the way over to the curb...lmfao. I just drove pass gingerly, smiling, laughing, and glad to own a magnum period whther AWD or RWD. Now if u take ur RWD n get itstuck on ice in a parking lot or something, then ya might have some issues. That ESP keeps cutting the power off or down cuz its detecting the tires slipping so much. Evn pressing the esp off doesnt do anything. The only thing tnat will wotk is doing the key dance to Completely shut it but if ur stuck that cant happen. U have to at least go a few miles an hr. To use the key trick to shut off the ESP completely.
A very wise man once told me...
"Slow and steady wins the race."
...Okay... Maybe it was a turtle.
