June 2007 Custom Magnum of the Month - Steve
I'd like to thank everyone who nominated and voted for me. May was a tough month for me dealing with a divorce and this award brings a smile to me face. Don't worry, I get to keep the Magnum. The first time I saw the commercial for the Magnum, I said to myself "I'm want that car". At the time I did not have the funds in order to acquire my Magnum. After a year or so and a new job, I drove to the dealership just to take a look and see if I could qualify. I test drove the R/T and was sold, but unfortunately the payments were too high to purchase. The dealer gave me an option to lease or to get into an SXT or SE. I was unfamiliar with leasing and was not interested at the moment. I didn't even test drive the SXT, because I knew I wanted the Hemi. I left the dealership and went home. The next day, I started to research leasing and it looked like it would be a viable option. The salesman called me back up and told me to come in and he would be able to work out a deal. Couple hours later I was driving her home. Before I even made the purchase I googled for a a forum for the Magnums. I found the LXforum site and learned a lot of info. Already owning a forum for Dodge Dakotas, I figured I would start a site for just Magnums. In late October 2005, CustomMagnums.com was born. Unfortunately, around Thanksgiving the server that the site was on crashed and I did not have a backup of the database. After a couple of days and a new server, CustomMagnums.com was up, but all of the info was lost. I surely thought that I had lost all of my members, but slowly you began to join again and new members started to join. I was ecstatic. To those of you who have been here since the beginning and are still around, THANK YOU ! Now back to the car, I got to break her in on the way to Las Vegas for SEMA 2005, although I don't think Dodge recommended hitting 120 mph within the first 500 miles. For the first 8 months or so, she served as my (ex)wife's daily driver and managed to rack up 20,000 miles in that time. She stayed pretty much stock except for an intake and shaved mouldings. With gas prices rising, we decided to purchase a more fuel efficient car and the Magnum would become my daily driver. That is where the fun began. I've never owned a car that was 100% stock. The past 2 trucks I had were bagged and I knew the Magnum was going to get bagged. I worked at a custom shop for a few years doing bag and hydraulic installs, so I was comfortable doing the install myself. Actually, all of the mods on my car have been done 100% by me with the exception of mounting and balancing the tires and the window tint. You can see a list of the modifications in my signature. Thanks everyone for supporting the site and if you are ever in the Santa Barbara,CA area, PM me so we can meet up and grab a drink. Last edited by steve; 06-04-2007 at 11:07 PM.. |
