Snazzy Hood Locks
Ordered a set of the locking version today, thought others might like the look and functionality as well:

They can be mounted either on top of the hood by cutting a teardrop-shaped opening, or from underneath with a smaller teardrop-shaped opening that would just allow the latch to actuate.
I'll post when after I have installed them. I just thought if folks were contemplating securing their hood in the immediate future they might prefer these over the not-so-pretty traditional hoodpins with cables. |

I think that with the hood pins of today on cars that truly don't need it, it's an appreciative nod to muscle cars of old. Back when they didn't have fancy adornments like hood struts or even hinges. Muscle cars were really just all motor with no care to unnecessary things like.........body panel fit and finish.
A hood pin was just there to stop the thing from flying off and killing someone now that hoods were actually required for driving on the street. Nowadays I think we are into adding a lot of creature comforts to our modern-day muscle cars. We like stereos and airride and bigger wheels, and even the above-mentioned hood latches. It kills us on weight, especially in these "automobricks" but it's what we want. I think that may be one reason why a lot of the "old school" muscle car afficianados give us so much grief. But, we tend to give it back when we smoke 'em down the quarter mile and on the streets. Back on topic, I'm curious to see how these latches look overall when they are installed. I think they look cool but I'm also a fan of the hood pins if they're on the right car. |

I'll post when they are installed, thanks.
I think it is worth pointing out that I am not adding these for any other reason than safety. On LX Forums just the other day a comment was made in a thread by one LX'r while going through the traps his friend in another LX platform beside him had his hood disengage to the second safety latch. He watched it happen... Last edited by Hemissary; 12-06-2008 at 12:09 PM.. |
