I have a set of 22x8.5 Paladin Shield rims runnin 265/35/22 Hankook Ventus tires. When I first bought the rims they came with 255/30/22 tires that were terrible. I picked the Hankooks because the guy at the rim shop told me 265/35/22 was the biggest tire I could put on the rims. I found it hard to believe but he was adament about it being the biggest tire possible.
Is it true? I'd really like to put bigger tires on my rims for protection from potholes and etc. after a recent issue with two bent rims.
I have 20'' wheels on my Mag and the tires are 255/45/20, thats why I didnt go with 22" wheels, the tires profile is too thin for the roads here in Ohio, potholes cost ya too much money on new wheels. I was told that 22" wheels will have very low profile tires, same thing you were told.
If you can squeeze in 24's by shaving the bolt, there's gotta be more meat you can put on a 22. What is commercially available is another story. I'm still rollin on the stock 18's so I'm not sure what's out there in the larger sizes. Just my $0.02.
I think Toyo and Yokahama make a 265/40/22. They are listed at 30.5" tall, about a inch taller than 35 series. With some bolt shaving on the front end, they might fit, but I'm not sure there is a 1/2" of room to be had there. Think that's why most everyone does 265/35/22.
