Laws on tinting headlights and taillights?

Anyone know the jist if tinting headlights and taillights are illegal? If so, whats the general % of V.L.?

I think that it varies from state to state.
In California I believe the law is no tinting at all (but don't quote me on that).
Enforcement is sometimes a crap shoot tho.

I agree, it varies from state to state.

Here in Florida it doesn't say anything about tint, just that the lights must be visible from XXX amount of distance.

My tails have a medium tint plus some paint covering the reflectors and I have not been pulled over yet. Have driven by the cops and they don't look twice.

The Virginia Motor Vehicle code defines the limits for us (distance based) check online -- you may be able to find your state code.
