Who has a fiberglass hood ?
I got my Trufiber Chally hood today and now I'm concerned. Is it going to be durable ? I know it won't dent, but can it crack in the cold ? How does the paint hold up when layed over fiberglass ? Is it extra prep work to paint fiberglass ? I got a quote for painting but I failed to mention that it's NOT a metal hood. Now I'm paranoid about extra labor charges.
Will it latch closed the same as the stock hood ? It seems like the extra weight of the stock hood is what helps it close tightly, but this new hood is pretty light. I'm prolly stressin over nothin, but I wanna know what to expect. It was a lot of cash to blow for it to look like garbage anytime soon.

Most fiberglass hoods are heavier than the stock hoods. The stock hoods are pretty light.
I would highly recommend hood pins to make sure the stays shut. Most people add hood pins.
It shouldn't coat any more to paint.
Post some pics man.

It's still wrapped up in the packaging. It's layin in the back of the Magnum right now. As soon as I get home from work I have to get that thing to the shop before they close. I'll post pics as soon as I install it.

If it's heavier than a stock hood and it uses the OEM latches and everything, shouldn't it stay in place ok ? I hate how hood pins look. My SXT doesn't see speeds over 70mph. She's a beast.

I keep thinkin back to my fiberglass backboard from my childhood. It had all kinds of spider webbing on it. I'm thinkin that paint will prevent this from happenin to a hood. Paint will prolly protect it from extreme temps, too. I'm curious about hail, rocks, ice, baseballs... whatever may smack into this thing. Is it gonna hold up ?

Seems like a fair price...its ALL about the clear! I never spoke with any shops, but I wouldnt be affraid (if I were U) to make all your concerns clear...maybe play dumb n mention something like, 'I'd be willing to pay a few bux for top end clear, or top end protection!?Hows this work???'
Just a thought. H8 to see you writing a rant thread on some hack at the dealership who you caught red handed with a rattle can of clear coat! ... LOL jK!

My Trufiber hood is one of my most complimented additions to my car. I had it shipped directly to the painter and he said that it took minimal prep and it looked smooth as glass when it was done. I noticed at first while driving around that the hood had some movement over bumpy roads and considered hood pins but I really dont like the look for my car. I contacted Trufiber and they said that hoop pins are not required with their hoods because of the attention they paid to reinforcement within the hood and the fact that the oem hardware was used in the application. I have since gotten use to the way the hood absorbs the road and I have to concern that anything bad will happen. That being said, I still do check for signs of stress and cracking around the areas that attach to the car. It looks as good as new two years later. To answer your questions about rocks and road debris, Ive watched some pretty big stones jump off of the road and land right on my hood. To my surprise, the most I've had to due is buff out a minor scratch. You'll love it and if your like me you wont stop thinking about it until its on your ride.

i have the Trufiber SRT style hood on my Maggie. its been on for about 8 months now. i am currently using the stock latch. i hate the look of the hoodpins also. it does vibrate more at high speeds than a stock hood but it doesnt bother me. my paint is holding up well for the most part. i have a few rock chips here and there but who doesn't, lol. one thing i would suggest though is using a prop rod instead of the hood struts. if they are too strong they will warp and crack your hood over time. what i did was disconnect my struts and just attach them to the pivot balls when i need the hood held up.
