I'm new to these forums and to dodges in general. Picked up my 07 Magnum last week. Got it debadged 2 days ago and noticed some clear coar chipping.
Is that true that paint on out cars is not that great? I mean easy chipping/fading etc... When I took my 3.5L HighOutput emblem off driver's fender I have noticed that clear coat is chipping around it... From your experiaences guys will dealer take care of that? And what about hoor stories about removing side moulding (bubbles/fading)? Thanks in advance, Nick |

side moldings
I debadged mine today with no problems, Set the car in the sun (70 degrees here in Dallas) and carefully took needle nose pliers and grabbed the letters and slightly twisted...they came right off. also took my finger on the side molding edge and lifted, then just peeled it off, was just a little dirty but took some Bug/tar remover and sprayed it on and let it set for 1 minute, then used a sponge and with soap and and water and scrubbed a little and it cleaned right up. If it's an 2007 it should come right off without difficulty, I can't understand why it would peel some of the clearcoat off. Some of the older 2005 magnums were having problems with bubbled paint under the side molding.
The only dificulty that i had was the Dodge RAM badge on the rear liftgate, the tape was a little more difficult to get off. it left a lot of residue, but I used my thunb nail and some WD-40 and it came off slowly. |

Ever since the EPA cracked down on air pollution from spraying paint, they have all switched over to a water based paint for cars.
Gone are the days of good car paint.......................... Bob |

The bubbles that are under the mouldings are from putting the moulding on soft paint that is not dried properly. Should be a warranty thing but good luck getting them to do anything. The water base paints that are being used now are just as durable as the old solvent based paints that have been used in the past. I've been in bodywork for 30+ years Change is always a little hard to get used to, but in a few years this will be the norm.

The bubbles under the mouldings are usually only on early build 05's...even then its hit or miss. I have an early build 05 and I had no bubbles, but another guy with an almost identical build date did have the bubbles.

I've got the horrid f'n bubbles!!!! And now my passanger side moldings is starting to come loose, I'm most likely just going to pull them off and say screw it for a few weeks until I can get the doors to the body shop for a repaint... I only did the passanger side and noticed no bubbles on the back passanger side, once we hit the driver side, bingo, bubbles! Its been a pain in my ass ever since... I wish there was an easy fix but from my understanding it needs to be sanded down, primered and repainted... hopefully the body shops won't ass rape me.
I did debadge the dairy air, and no problems what so ever, not even any color fading... I was surprised about that since it is an 05... ![]() |
