Painting the brake light fascia?
Has anybody had any success in painting the brake light area? I hate the black on red look I have now...
Im thinking of getting it and the GPS antenna painted. Also, due to my mag seeing the rain for the first time last week, Ive noticed that the whole side is covered with road water... So Im thinking of getting the moulded hard plastic OEM mud flaps and having them painted as well. Any thoughts? S |

I painted my wing and antenna myself, but Avon is another option and they do great work.
I'm not a big fan of the mud flaps, but it doesn't rain much here...and they look much better painted.. |

I took my mud flaps, whent and purchased a product called Gripper from the hardware store to prime them. Ordered matching paint for 12 dollars a can and painted them myself. Cost me about 20 buck to paint all four. They turned out fine. However, It's true that once you paint them you will worry that they are dirty all of the time. You might try just using tire shine on bare flaps to see if you like the look before you paint. If you want some matching paint let the forum know and anyone can point you in that direction. The same paint will color out your light issue.
I do like my mud flaps as it does rain a lot down here and they do work. You can click the link to see the flaps before painting. I need to put up some pics with them painted but since the car is black it's hard to tell with a pic. Just an idea. Regards, Greg Last edited by peybella; 09-20-2006 at 07:53 PM.. |

Thanks for the pics Greg...
Im definately going to get them painted... Found a shop that will do all three (flaps, spoiler and GPS for 200) While I know I could do it my self, I also know my limitations... And frankly I have the steady hand of .... well lets just say I dont have one.. Mechanical... I can do.. Rough building... Not a problem... Electrical... Not a problem... painting... Nope not gonna happen. If I had black.. not so sure I would worry about painting em.... I just got my pictures taken and will post pre paint/pre flap pictures soon. |

That's a pretty good price for all your parts to be professionaly painted. I look forward to seeing the ride before and after.
I know some of the guys and gals don't like the flaps very much but I must say that they have saved my car from road debris and water spots. The black car is sweet and is exactly what I wanted but It shows dirt big time. I've thought about painting my rear spoiler but once again, it's black and I'm not sure it would make that big of a differance. Good luck, Greg |

If I lived in CA or AZ, where when it rains, you just stay home... But here in Oregon, you would never leave home...
The other thing I have noticed, the damn rear bumper is a water collector... My site is up.. Just check out my sig. |
