door kits

Does anyone know where to get a shaved door kit for a magnum. I was told that you couln't shave the doors because of the body lines. if this is true do they make a kit that you can place in the opening so you do not have to weld on the body line.

Ok, the shaved door kit is universal...they're not made for a specific vehicle application. Try Autoloc kits with atleast a 35lb pull solenoid. As for the bodyline, you CAN shave the handles even though the body line is there. You probably should take it to a body shop though. A piece of 18ga or 16ga steel will need to be cut to fit perfectly inside the recessed area for the door handle. The metal needs to be perfectly flush with the rest of the door surface and bent to match the body line exaclty. Using a long Air sander/file along the body line on the shaved area will help keep the body straight across this area and the rest of the door.

How much do you think it would cost to get all doors, including hatch, shaved and everything installed?

I think you are thinking of the "magic door handles" by Lafrance autoworks? ? ? Not sure on the shop name. They did a kit on the Overhaulin' magnum. It is pretty damn expensive for the kit and you can still see the outline of the door handle. You can mold them in, but I think it would be cheaper to have a body shop do it.

I have shaved many a door handles and just like Tuckin Toys, I usually used a piece of 18ga. We had a metal brake so we could create the body line. If you do it yourself, you must have patience. You must cool off each weld otherwise you will warp the panel and cause more work.

You guys beat me to it. I just remembered the Magic Touch kit and was going to mention it. I don't think it looks good, but it would probably be a good kit for someone not versed in bodywork looking for a smoother look.

It all depends on where you live and the quality of body shop you choose. We used to charge $150 a door to weld the hole and install the solenoid. This did not include any body work, paint or hooking up the solenoid to an alarm system.

Thanks for all the info I hope to get the doors shaved by the first of the year. how big of a solenoid would you recommend for the back hatch. The plan is to shave the doors, the back hatch, the mirriors, and the gas cap. I am going the the commpletly naked look for showing.

For the rear, you may be able to utilize the existing hardware. I think the handle is electonically controller, so it must have an actuactor that opens the latches when you press the handle. If you could tap into that wiring, I think you would be set. I would recommend getting some of the spring loaded door poppers to help push the hatch out when you unlock it. Another trick option would be to put linear actuators in place of the stock gas struts that are holding up the hatch.

Here is the link to when I shaved my rear hatch. Look at my Shaved Rear.........w/Pics & Rear Hatch Swith Relocation Mod

I also added popper so when you hit the switch it lifts the hatch over the latch and you can open it with one hand. I picked it up a my local custom shop for about $25.

I believe the Magic Touch kits run about $400 per door and that doesn't include installation.

Where are you going to run your gas filler tube??
