Unhappy I Just Don't Get it...

My situation with the balance and handling on my Mag has been an issue ever since I got 22's. Some of you may know my story from previous threads, trying to find a solution to a shaking steering wheel after three different wheel balances at three different locations.

Well last weekend I finally got in touch with a shop that had a special type of wheel balance machine that applied pressure to the tire as it spun to pin-point trouble areas and balance correctly.

To my surprise, they FINALLY balanced the wheels correctly but also informed me that I had two bent rims . So they rotated the wheels and put the bent rims in the rear so the shaking in the steering wheel went away almost entirely.

But now, because the bent rims are on the rears, the entire car shakes and vibrates terribly when I approach higher speeds (60 mph and so on).

So now I'm faced with the dilemma of picking the lesser of two evils... do I go back to the shaking steering wheel or take a hit and buy two new rims.

In all this, I still can't understand how these BMW's and Benz's with their skinny low-profile tires have NO problems with shaking steering wheels or vibrations. I see these people everyday driving over potholes at high speeds, speeding through rough terrain, and yet hey have ZERO issues with shaking or vibrations. I've experienced this first hand in my ex-girlfriend's BMW, her rims were bent to shit... but zero issues while driving. Are those cars REALLY that good?

Anyways, sorry for the length of the post LOL. Just had to vent my frustration with these damn rims!

My BMW shakes. I have 18's on it. I must have 1 bent rim, because it only shakes every other time I get them rotated and balanced. The 22's on my Mag seem fine, not much shake.
I must be the bizzaro you. Mag fine, BMW shakes half the time.

That sucks what kind of wheels are they?

Ive seen wheels with part of the lip broken off or big dents in the lip with no problem I guess it all depends on how they are bent if there is a flat spot or they are oblong your screwed..

I would replace the wheels maybe look for a different set

Yea there is a flat spot on the rim that becomes really clear when you see the wheel in motion. The rims are Paladin Shields with a deep dish look. The bent part on both of them are on the inner lip so you can't notice from the outside. They still look good but once in motion you notice it.

I heard there are some places that can actually repair rims but was also told they can't guarantee it will fix the issue. It's an issue where if the rim was completely cracked or broken, they could fix it, but bent rims are just more difficult to shape back. I don't know why but that's what I've been told.

As for the BMW, I think the suspension on some of the models help compensate for shaking and vibrations. I remember when I would change the oil on her BMW, her suspension was some stuff I had never seen before, it was like it had double suspension. The car rode like a dream even with the screwed up rims, I could never explain it.

canadianstarbuck is just warmin' up!
Rims can be repaired in specialized shop. A friend of mine has a Trans Am and found out he has a bent mag as if the previous owner has hit a sidewalk.

He brought it to a place where they fix mags and it came as new.
It's worth it !

I know there is a mobile wheel repair here I see on the freeway every now and then. There was an article in one of the many magazines I get that show that these guys can work miracles on wheels that you would think would be junk...They do most repairs without even removing the tire...

Well, I have toi tell you like my girlfriend... You get what you pay for sometimes. Many think that saving a buck here or there means quality at a discount. I bought a set of AR wheels and replaced an entire set before I knew it. I found that heavy cars aren't made for aluminum wheels. I don't know what your story is, but I had to share my tidbit. Good luck in getting your problem taken care of.

btw, I am running 24s with no shaking issues. Be careful because some shops spin the wheels once and say they are balance.
