exzentriker is gettin' serious now!exzentriker is gettin' serious now!
Possible transmission problems?

Ok, there are 5 different things that are happening. The other day I was at a stop light and slowly accelerated and it felt like the car was about to stall...like it was shaking or shuddering.

The second thing is when I put my car in drive there is a fast ticking sound until I guess it goes into gear. I've heard other cars do it before, but I'm not sure what it is.

The third thing is when I slow down there is a roaring sound if anyone knows what I mean.

And the fourth and final thing that I've noticed is when I accelerate, there is a loud whine, almost like the sound of a supercharger, I hope it's just the sound of the stock air box sucking air, but I'm afraid all of these signs are pointing towards tranny trouble.

Oh yeah, almost forgot about when I put it in gear, it slightly slams, shaking the entire car when it does.

Hope someone can help me sort some of this out. Thanks in advance.

It might be the torque converter going bad. Not really sure, though. How many miles do you have on it? How hard has the car been driven?

Sounds like it to me. Also since you cant check the tranny fluid your self then have the dealer check that first. You could have lost enough fluid to have some of the problems listed show up.

Thats almost all automatic mopars after a certain year (98 or 99) My Caravan did it, friends Sebring did that, my Stratus did it, both my Magnums do it....and Ive heard many others do it as well. The newer they are the less I can hear it. I cant even tell in my 08....but the 99 Sebring and 01 Stratus were pretty loud. (If you guys never noticed this before, start your car, turn the radio off, open the door and put it in drive)

As for your other problems, I am afraid Im not much help. I just wanted to point out that the ticking is normal.

With some hard driving from the previous owner and that many miles, it could very likely be the torque converter. It's not the end of the world by any means, but it will cost some $$.

iceman-5076Hemi is just warmin' up!
From past experiences...I would say the loud clunking noise is low tranny fluid. I had a tranny replaced in a 2002 F150...the guy didn't put enough fluid, so I thought and when it shifted, litterally the truck shook and sounded like the tranny fell out of the phukin truck. After checking fluid and topping off for 2 or 3 days (getting air out and topping off was the trick)...worked like a champ.

sorry, no idea on the other stuff
