I am in the market for a magnum in the next few weeks. My question is should I pass on an 05 RT and find an 06 RT. I was checking out a consumers report and noticed that they said the 05s have had tranny problems. I know the 05s come w/ 7/70k warranty compared to the 06s 3/36k, but I don't want to deal w/ trips to the dealership all the time. Just looking for some input from the guys in the know and those w/ 05 RTs. Love the website.
I own an '05 and have had zero problems. The 05's do not come with a 7/70 warranty. It's a 3/36 just like the 06's. If you can save some money and still get a quality unit, I would not worry about the 05.
I have almost 75,000 miles on my '05 RT and no tranny issues so far. It did come with the 7/70k warranty but I upped it to 100k, lost of electrical stuff in there.

I still have my 05 rt up for sale with the 7/70k warranty love it. I would prob say what ever car fits your budget better. mine has 42k on it and still drives like a dream.
i was in your same situation the last month. when i was looking and asking around one thing someone warned me about the the born on date (located on the door sticker). if the magnum was made in 05 before the month of may there may be a shimmy shake that occurs when it shifts gears, sometimes. the 05's i tested did not make the shake but it was just something someone warned me to look out for. by the way i ended up with the 06 RT AWD, the wifey didn't want to take any chances with the tranny issue. i am happy with my choice but honestly i know i would have been cool with the 05. good luck and hope to be of any help.
All '05s come with 7/70 warranty. When looking for my car, which ended up being a '06, the biggest selling point of the '05 was the 7/70. I would go into dealers and ask them why their 05 with 30k on it was priced as high as the 06 with 18k miles on it, and they would pull out the 7/70.
But I believe that the 7/70 is POWERTRAIN ONLY. That and you have to pay something like $150 to transfer the warranty to your name and that a $100 deductible applys...something like that.
