    My engine shut-off...

    2006 Dodge Magnum 3.5 SXT

Help? Today, while driving the engine just shut off out of nowhere. It also hiccups when I'm at a stop light, every once in a while. But, the engine shutting off worries me. Is anyone else having this problem. There is no "check engine" light that comes on . I just had the "rocker assemblies" replaced...could that be part of the problem? That had to be replaced because the engine was making a "ticking" noise and Dodge fixed that.
Do I have to take it back to Dodge because the engine shut off?
Can this be fixed or do I have to wait for the check engine light to come on? I just need help.

    Greatly appreciated...

Were you stopping quickly then hit gas hard. I've had that shut my engine off before in a parking garage. Trying to chirp the tires loudly, never had it happen again. Some times you can get a code if you do the key dance trick even if there isn't a CEL. Have you tried to do the key dance yet? Also, did you recently get gas or get down very close to empty when this happened. Sorta sounds like when you have water in your tank, but I'm no expert.

    Hi B-Rock

No, actually I had just put the car in reverse and she just shut off. I haven't tried the key dance. Can you please tell me how to do this?

Yes, got gas about 2 days ago, filled up the tank. I don't usually fill up, but I was headed to a casino in the middle of nowhere.

    Thanks

Might be the fuel/vapor device inside the tank, early cars have this problem. I have to keep mine at less than 3/4 tank or it will stall.
No fix or recall on this, the whole gas tank needs to be replaced............... $$$$$$$$$$$$

Was it hard to restart?? If so, loosen the gas cap next time it happens.

    Good luck,

check the battery in you key fob....sometime that stupid battery will start to go dead and kick off the engine kill as if you just stole your own car! happened to me a few months back, and read a post about that exact thing. changed the battery and all has been well so far.

key dance is easy, but only works if you have the digital display under neath your speedo with temp and compass I think. You just turn your key from on to ACC and repeat 3 times in a row, then your odometer area will start flashing the latest codes if none are there it will just throw zeros up. Write down the code if you get one, it will flash through 3 or 4 blank ones sometimes before it give you a code, so don't turn away until the odometer pops back up. Good luck.
