Hemi Gas Mileage observation/ question/ reason to start a new thread
OK, I am about 5 weeks into my new mag and i don't think i have loved a vehicle this much since my first real Harley. Any way, love driving it and have put on about 3000 miles in the 5 weeks, all sorts of different driving and i have a about a 30 mile (15 each way) commute. Since it is a Hemi, i have been paying very close attention to the MPG, i didn't bother with the first few fill ups becasue i was busy playing with the gas pedal and I knew my Milage would suck, so after about 3 tanks, i started tracking, everything pretty much the same, reset all the settings at every fill up, used plus from Hess and every single tank averaged 12.1 MPG, like clock work and in stone, I use hess becasue the are right around the corner from my house. One day needed fuel and went to another station in town, it is called Oceanic, never seen them anywhere else, kind of a mom and pop place, anyway, notice that my average on that tank is 13.2 MPG, buy several more tank fulls and like clock work, 13.1 or 13.2 average, had one time to 13.4 MPG, i never would have thought the vendor of that gas would have made that big of a difference, now i am wondering who has the best gas?? Wondrerng what everyone thinks of that? Am i just blowing smoke or could that really be the case?

I don't get that bad fuel economy in local driving in my SRT8... so there has to be something else going on as well! You should be up around 15 at least. With our Heritage Edition 5.7L we get between 15.5 and 16.5 routinely. With the MSRT8 I get 13.5-14.5 without hardly trying. IF I'm very getting with it locally, I have calculated 15.5 mpgs.

I would think that the quality of the gas would play a part in better gas mileage however I would think the quality would have to be just terrible to make a dramatic difference.
Were you doing your calculations on paper or just going by the on board EVIC? According to my EVIC I am usually sitting between 15.7 and 17.2 depending if it's more freeway or more city driving. |

I've had my magnum since last thanksgiving it's (2005) took it on a trip to OHIO used mostly mid grade Sunoco and got 25 1/2 mpg. After I got back I kept my foot out of it most of the time and got 15 to 16mpg, but now I use a little more foot a little more often and I get between 13 and 14mpg. But I didn't buy it for the gas mileage. I think it's the best car(wagon) I've ever driven. It handles as good as my friends 350Z. I could probably beat it too.

They say that Shell gas is the worst and to stay away from it..........
If you have BP gas in your area, that is supposed to be a good gas. Have you tried using one of the computer reprogrammers? I use a Superchips and it gives me better gas mileage. Being in Florida, my A/C is on most of the year and I get 17-18 mpg in the city. I have gotten as high as 30 mpg on the highway, that was doing 55 MPH, using cruise control and no A/C on. Yes, I do run the 91 octane setting on the Superchips, we have 93 octane gas here in Florida. It gives me more power and better gas mileage also. I would say that SC gave me 2-3 more miles per gallon of gas. Bob |

Just a little tidbit. On one episode of Myth Busters they had a gas mileage test and the results that they got were surprising.
They found that running the AC did not significantly affect the mpg. The biggest difference was whether your windows were up or down. Windows up gave a more significant increase and down gave a significant decrease. |

Hi Guys
My 05 Magnum RT AWD gets 15.5-16.8 around town and on the highway I have gotten 23-24 with the wife and lots of stuff in the back. By the way I don't try to get good gas mileage. I figure I bought Chryslers Hybrid vehicle it burns gas and tires. I try to buy Sunoco gasoline when ever possible just because of the price around here and the quality. If you really want to know about the quality of the gasoline that's out there here the web site that will give you the info Top Tier Gasoline this is best info that I have found on gasoline |
