    ack......

what a horrible week.....My howling noise came back on the mag worse then ever. It only happens when there is a load on the engine and the car is moving. (is used to only do it during acceleration, but now it has done it a few times during braking too). I'm going to try to get the sound on video so maybe someone can chime it. It has the same sound as when you run a hydraulic pump dry. I've replaced both my rack and power steering pump so those can't be the culprit, and the fluid is full. The only other hydraulic part of the car would be the tranny. I'm thinking it might have something to do with the electronics doing something funny with the tranny since the problem is intermittent. Someone else said to check out the hanger bearing, but it really sounds like its coming from the tranny and I can "feel" it in the shifter when it happens.

episode 2. I was following a truck on the interstate and the bastard ran over a hunk of tire sending it flying my direction and completely tearing off the lower plastic rocker panel thing on the drivers side of my car. sooooooo. if anybody has one they would like to sell pm me!

still having issues with my intune. It won't read or clear codes and the tcm keeps converting to factory. Tech support said to pull the battery cable then try to read codes again (haven't done it yet) and that the early 05's tcm modules don't sync with the intune so I have to find one from an 06 to install. yay yay yay.

So looks like the little modding time I will have coming up will be used to fix crap again. That pile of aftermarket parts in the corner of the shop keeps growing bigger and I can start to see the dust settling. Sure wish I had some more time to work on this car, and when I do get the time that I can actually mod it and not just spend my time fixing crap.

    k....vent over

Try pulling fuse #11 in the underhood fuse box. See if that helps with the Intune.

Can you hear the noise when OUTSIDE of the car? If so try to drive past someone and have them listen to see where the noise is coming from. Had a bad wheel bearing on my old taurus that started to howl but from inside it sounded like the right rear and it turned out to be the left front. Only other thing I could suggest it to crawl under the car and inspect every moving point in the drive train and see if anything looks "off".

Also...is the noise speed dependant? Is it better or worse at high or low speeds? Does it get worse when turning? Things like that. As my mechanic tells me "the more info you give us the more we can check out"

not speed dependent. The decibel level of the noise is different sometimes. sometimes its really loud, sometimes it a little more quiet. when it comes it starts off and stays the same decibel level the entire time no matter the rpm (although id does it more around 1500-3000) or speed. I had it bad this fall, then it went away, now its back. I don't know if its heard outside the car as I have to be moving. The one thing is it seems to come when the engine is under a certain load, no matter the gear. I have to do some research on the nag1 tranny since I'm not that familiar with them. I'm thinking it might have something to do with the lockup of the torque converter. I put it up on the hoist on friday and looked it over, didn't see anything that jumped out at me. The other mechanic at my shop took it for a spin and he thinks it's tranny related also. (mostly because it really sounds like a hydraulic pump running dry.) There is a service bulletin about a bad seal on the dipstick tube that water can get in at so I'm going to try to flush the tranny and see if that helps. The sound could very well be water running through the pump.

Try putting it up on a rack and seeing if you can identify the noise. You won't have load, but may find it that way.
