I bought mine somewhat on impulse. I had just totaled my ram 1500 and was looking for another truck but jumped on the mag cause it was the last new v8 in my area and had loved the car since inception. Part of me wishes I got the truck at times but then again I have never felt the way I do about this car with any other vehicle. Not even the new durango the wife has lol.

Had an '01 taurus wagon that needed about $3k to keep road worthy. It had over 500k kms and wasn't going to pay that for a car so whipped. Since I am 6'5" with long legs I needed something that would continue to meet my needs. As well since I like wagons best this was a no brainer. Loved them since they first came out and when I sold my share of my house after my separation I treated myself to the first really nice car I have ever had and do not regret a moment of it. I love my magnum!!!!!

i had a 2001 nissan fronteir that barely got 19 mpg with the 4 cylinder. i wanted a vehicle that can do 4 things.

1- get out of its own way
2- get at least 25 mpg
3- be able to put my competition rifles in the rear with out them getting wet in case of rain.
4- seat more than 2 people.

my maggie may only have a 3.5l v6 but its got more then double the power my run down truck was getting. my maggie gets 33 mpg on the hwy with the stock rims and tires on it.mr rifles and ammo have yet to get wet sitting in the rear and still room for my ammo, luggage, wont get wet when it rains, nor do i have to move them from the rear of the truck to the front seat just to go inside somewhere. and this thing seat 5 people. have put 4 adults( including myself) and a small teenage girl (my little sister) and still gets 30 mpg with all that weight. i love my car and will get another one when this one is paid off. I WANT A HEMI!!!

I wanted an "outcast" of muscle cars and the wagon just looked wicked. I originally wanted a Subaru WRX wagon. Crash test ratings and reliability pointed me this way

Guess I've always been a wagon guy at heart - first new car we bought when I was a kid was a 72 Pinto wagon white with fake wood siding and a floor-mounted shifter when I was 8. Had my Mom draw a picture of it without wheels, so I could give it the Ed Roth giant-rear-wheels-monster-blower look.

Then my college/job hunt car was a used maroon Olds Delta 88 custom cruiser with no options except a CB radio and heavy duty suspension. I still miss that car - I imagined giving it the moonie wheel make-over, but instead traded it on an '86 dark gray 5 speed Mustang GT (it was my proxy for an AC cobra ). The Mustang got traded for a '93 dark blue Explorer to take my little 17' inboard/outboard to more lakes. Luckily, I married a hot-rod girl who drove a '95 Camaro Z-28, so when kids came along, I got the Camaro, and when the Explorer started regularly overheating on hills, she got an Expedition.

Then, not sure how, I stumbled across this link:
    Dodge Magnum SRT-8 concept car

And it was simply a question of when - just a perfect fusion of everything I loved in cars. I started haunting every Dodge lot I passed, and finally found my blue RT.

Great thread, great stories, and thanks for the opportunity to walk down memory lane!

I bought my mag in the spring of ’08; previously I drove a full sized GMC Sierra. Gas was approaching $4 a gallon which meant $100 per fill up, lasting me appox 4 days or so (50 miles one way). I needed a new car bad!

I looked at every sedan on the lot, and they were all, well… sedans. All pretty much the same. And then I saw her, Inferno Red and beautiful. Only 3K miles and halfway decent gas mileage. Sold!

I avoided the mod bug for 3 years. That all started with rims, then exhaust, then springs/struts, etc. It’s a slippery slope the mod bug, but ya’ll know that. She's changed a bit since these pics were taken, the molding is gone.

Predator tuner w/ modified 93oct tune.

I loved my Avalanche, but the 13.5 mpg and the amount of travel I do for work and to wrestling tournaments and baseball for my oldest son, I had to get something with better mileage and still had room on the inside. I loved the look of the Magnum when it first came out and the idea of still having a V-8. Now I'm getting 19.8 MPG and loving it! Would love a SRT8 if it didn't run on premium.

Well I had an 07 Silverado 4x4 that I loved dearly. Had everything done to her, true dual exhaust, headers every bolt on performance part you could think of. I loved her to death but well I took a different job and a huge pay cut but was at a positive place with equity on her. I used that to buy my way into my maggie. Had a long talk with my best friend about what to get, I wanted something that I still could use to haul some stuff if I needed to and he said how about a magnum they have a hemi you know. Well from there I searched heavily online to find one in Black, I new I wanted black and hemi for sure, other than that well everything was on the table. Found one that would work in my price range and test drove her and I was in love. It has been a mod love affair ever since.

My old silver streak, still miss her some days.

    The day I got her

    After a few mods

Thought I was happy with this look than i ordered a hood and well the wheels had to go

And well how she sits today

I was in the same boat, except I had a 99 Dakota.
Didn't feel quite comfortable when my little one came along strapping that car seat in the front seat (and w/o AC).
The Mag was for the family; the HEMI was for me
