I turn the key and it'll crank 3 or four seconds before the engine starts. I've had the car for 4 years and I always remember it bein that way. I replaced the battery cuz I tried to start it and it did nothing. All the interior lights went out when I turned the key, it seemed like it was time for a replacement. My battery was 5 years old anyway. After the new battery, it started up instantly for the first couple days. Now, it's actin like it did before. Is this a normal thing for Magnums or does it sound like I need a new alternator ?

I have the same problem but mines about 2 to 3 secs and sometimes it won't start on the first try but itl start up on the 2nd always...?
Try these first, There is a TSB for this issue on the challenger

Yep, mine too. It starts almost instantly, like half a crank it seems. Original battery. Different engines, but maybe you should check for trouble codes??

There were some threads regarding slow starting or 2nd try on LXForums for the V8's and the fix was either the camshaft sensor or the crankshaft sensor. Everyone was trying the camshaft sensor first because that is the easy one to get too. I would like to put more weight on the TSB fix for the Challenger than the sensors causing the issue.

when i had my remote start instaed, it wouldnt crank long enough to start it, so i had the guy go back in and reprogram my remote start to crank a lil longer (total of maby 2.5 sec). never has ever been a prob, although it probably wouldnt be when u have 2 kenitik 2400 series bateries that are 1700 cranking amps ea, and a lil tiny 2.7 moter, lolol.
I read to replace the battery every 4 years and when my car wouldn't start, I figured it was time. (5 years old). I'm overly paranoid about batteries and tires, I've had bad experiences with both. I'll order the grounding kit and see if it helps.

lean conditions will make a vehicle crank longer than needed too. do you have any engine mods? have you replaced your wires and plugs lately?

My 06 RT starts instantly. i just stick the key in and a flick of the wrist and shes purring... off topic, but what was the OEM battery in the RT? just curious if mine has been replaced or not...
