I am no longer active duty but was enlisted in the Coast Guard (EM3). Granted it's not the Deparment of Defense but it was still service to the our great Country's home front. I was also born and raised an Army Brat. My father spent 27 years in the Army and had tours of duty in both Vietnam and Korea's DMZ. I have lived in many places that include Germany, Okinawa, Alaska, and at least 8-10 different US States.
