Shifter / Knob Question...

Glad to find this site. Have had my Magnum since Sunday and love it, just need a few tweaks here and there. I'm thinking of changing the stock shifter knob out with the r/t engraved ball 2" ball from Billet Tech. I understand that removing the original is just a question of putting some muscle into it and unthreading it. Is it truly that simple or is there anything else I should look for? Most importantly, how long is the shaft? Will I need some sort of extension shaft so I don't have a 3 inch tall shifter or is the shaft longer than what it appears on the original knob? Make sense? (I sound like my wife when I proposed.) Anything else I should look out for when installing the Billet Tech ball? Thanks, and great site!

The shaft is longer than you think. I'm pretty sure it goes almost all the way to the top of the middle of the handle. As for removing it what year is your Mag? I have a 2007 and I had to remove the chrome trim ring around the bottom I used my big a$$ knife and then the handle screwed off. I got a Pappa John pistol grip shifter though.

Nice. Mine's a 2005 RT, does that make any difference? Any recommendations on other sites to look for Magnum shifter knobs?

Hey man, I have a 2005 also, and all I had o do for mine was use some muscles. Just give it a good hard turn and you'll see. Also the shaft, like Atrus said is longer than you think. I believe your would be the same as mine the 2008's are different they are pressure mounted. A couple of people have bought off of ebay and pappa john does more than just the pistol grip shifters plus with his you know they will fit perfectly here is the link to his photobucket album with the different shifters he's done JJsPrecisonGuesswork - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting he can make almost anything you want within reason I'd suggest looking at the album and seeing if there is anything you like then get in touch with him he is a member here on the site so just click on the "staff" button on the left side of the homepage and scroll all the way down to the bottom and you'll see Pappa John under the Supporting Vendors section.
