Interior Masking help

I'm bound and determined to get the remainder of my console color matched. So far I've been unable to find any type of tape that will stick to the material and allow me to mask it off. I've tried all types of tape including medical tape and athletic tape but no luck. Anyone have any suggestions -- I'm considering a light coating of rubber cement (which should rub off afterwards) or even a coating of vaseline to protect the adjacent areas. HELP!

I want to continue the color match that I started with my radio bezel and center console. The part I want to paint is the "pillar" portion adjacent to the bezel
You can see the mismatched portions in the photo. I've cleaned that thing with everything I can think of -- tape just won't stick to it. Any suggestions?

I was going to suggest the alcohol. Honestly MD I dont think your gonna be happy with the "line" that will be created between the vertical console and the horizontal portion across the top of the glovebox. Even with the best tape and adhesion, unless it is perfect it's gonna stand out like a sore thumb.....thats what I'm thinkin anyway. Only my opinion but I think it would look better with the console back to original color with the ashtray and shifter bezel staying white.

You may be right HL but I've got my heart set on it. I can "see" it and I know the lines you're talking about. I've already stripped it down once, if I don't like it I can do it again I suppose.

Maybe try your local hobby shop for some liquid mask. it may help getting into the tiny crevices(spelling?) i.e rough texture of the console. they may even have a tape that will do it also. just a thought!

also the scrapbooking section of a store has a type of tape that sticks to pretty much everything!

Yeah i used the liquid mask on mines also. it worked really good. just make sure if you can find it and use it, to apply 3-4 heavy coats and let dry good between coats. it peels off really easy that way. its like using elmers glue. hey......i wonder if thick elmers glue would hold the paint off?? it would be easy to peal off too...hmmm
