Talking Homemade Arm Rest

Well I must have lost my mind, becuse today I went to town and went to a fabric store, and bought a yard of vinyl to cover my armrest. Mind you I have zero knowledge in how to do any work with this kind of stuff but I think it will work till i can get afford a pro to do it.

Cool, how did you secure it on the underside? I have never done auto, but I have re-upholstered furniture.

Looks good, gotta love the padding! Silvermaggie -- when I did mine i used spray adhesive on the the underside of the material edges and the armrest base. 3m (of course) makes a good adhesive spray, or your fabric store may have something for upholstery.

DON'T LAUGH!!!! I was just trying it so i used clear packing tape. I am going to get some spray adhesive this week. I wanted to see if i liked how it turned out before I tried some thing longer lasting.

Looking good. I think I'd have to use something like tape first too untill I got it right. Even though I am a female...I dont work well with fabric...LOL
Looks great though.

Thanks this have given me some confidence to try some other projects like wrapping the whole center in black vinyl, and making a dash mat for it. You can just go buy mods but the mods mean something if you make fab them your self.

Figured it out.

Well the tape was letting go and the wife said something had to be done, so I was thinking about what to do. I pulled the arm rest off and was putting the rubber back on when it hit me, put the pad over the rubber and then vinyl over that and use the bottom of the rest to hold the vinyl in place. It worked and looks great I will get some pics up soon.
