Fix your Keyless Remote

For anyone that's come out to their car only to have to manually use the key If it's not just a dead battery this is most likely the problem.

This is an easy one folks.

Tools required are as show (Soldering iron, solder and a small screwdriver)

1. Remove the small screw from the back of the case

2. Pry the two halves apart (fingernails, screwdriver, dime, whatever)

3. Remove the circuit board from the case and turn it over so you can see the battery. Here you can see the problem. The contact has popped up off of the side of the battery.

4. Remove the battery and gently push the contact pin back into the circuit board

5. Carefully apply a small amount of solder to the loose contact points. I put a small bead on the front as well for good measure.

6. Replace the battery and test it to make sure it works properly. Place the board back in the case. Snap the two halves back together and replace the screw.

Ta da!

magnum_menace is just warmin' up!
hey, i dont have a screw in mine, no place for one... does that mean its just clipped on and pries apart? its been acting up, not so much not working, but the distance it works at has been gradually reducing.lol

edit: nervermind, i found a space on the side that you stick something in to pry it open, battery is probably wearing down, i'm just gonna switch to the valet key til i can get the battery to replace this one.
good write up though

If there's no screw just pry it open. Sounds like the battery might need changing.

If you are still in the warranty period, take it to the dealer and they will get you a new one. I did the same soldering thing, then a month later the other FOB did the same thing. Took it to them and got 2 new ones. Seems the ealier ones were cold solder joints at the factory. I have replaced the batteries in the new FOB twice and the tab hasnt popped off. Looks like they fix the issue.
