New Digital Camera

Picked up a new digital camera. Its a Canon Digital Rebal XT. This will be my first professional camera. I've had many point and shoot cameras, but nothing this complex. Any photographers have any tips for shooting great shots?

Try setting the dial to "P" [program mode] Add "vivid" to your program. It will help with color saturation. Medium size files will give you better sharpness but, don't make them bigger than 1mb. Anything larger will be hard to upload on websites. The "RAW" files are awesome for making prints. Very large but very sharp files. Save them in TIFF format for max resolution. Good luck with your new camera.

Great camera. I have a Canon D60. A little old by digital standards but I love it.

Join a Camera Club. Most are into digital now and you can learn LOTS. You can also see how others are using their cameras. I prefer AV mode. You set the apature for depth of field and the camera sets the shutter speed. You select whats sharp and whats out of focus in the background.

Shoot lots of photos. F-I-L-M is cheap. Set the camera for the best quality lowest compression. You can always downsize your photos later. It is very difficult to upsize the later.
