Driver of Sunday Fatal Crash Identified as Danny Cox
Teen had been struggling with depression, thoughts of suicide By Karina Ioffee | 7:59am
The driver of the solo vehicle that crashed on Highway 101 Sunday evening has been identified as Danny Cox, the 19-year-old Petaluma teen who the community rallied around following a diving accident last August in Lake Tahoe that left him paralyzed.
Sunday's fatal accident occurred at 5:30pm north of Olompali Park, according to the California Highway Patrol. The 2005 Dodge Magnum Cox was driving struck an oak tree after the car veered off the road for an unknown reason. The car came to rest about 10 feet from the highway in a ditch. CHP said the car was not speeding and that there were no skid marks on the highway. Cox was pronounced dead at the
Danny Cox graduated from Petaluma High School last year where he was a track athlete and was on a trip to Lake Tahoe when a diving accident left him paralyzed from the chest down. He had been receiving stem cell transplants and physical therapy and had made some progress, according to his mom, Maureen McGowan.
But he also struggled with being confined to a wheelchair and had feelings of despair, McGowan said. He had also recently received his new drivers license so he could drive to his own physical therapy appointments.
A benefit had been scheduled for Cox on September 9 at Rooster Run to raise money for his ongoing care.

Danny was an amazing person. He was full of life, love and energy and his promising life was cut short by these series of tragic events.
Rest in peace Danny. You will forever be missed.

This was actually told me by a coworker this morning as I work in Novato Ca and he knew I was in a car club that had dodge magnums in it.
I knew he was a part of the custommagnums family so I figured i would let everyone know what happened, if they did not know already.
RIP Danny
