I finally quit

After 10 years of smoking, it has now been over a month without a cigarette. I still get a craving once in a while, but it has been a lot smoother that I thought. How did this all come about? I got sick back in early Nov and didn't have a smoke for a few days. When I got better, I still didn't have the urge to light up. I have some packs laying around the house and one in the car, but haven't been tempted to open them up. I think it may be time to throw them away.

The wife quit about a year ago. Now with all the money saved, I can put it towards more mods for the magnum.

Good for you!!! I'm in the process of quiting myself. I have put down the regular smokes and went with a brand that is supposed to help cut down. So far it's worked. I've gone from a pack a day to a pack a week. So far, so good. My plan is by New years to throw them away forever.

Proud of you man. It takes a smoker to understand how hard it is to do.

Regards,

Greg

Yep, I used to be up to a pack a day. It was hard, but luckily I didn't really go through any withdrawls. Luckily, I don't drink much anymore, otherwise I don't think I would have been able to quit.

Good for you Steve and Greg. It is an ugly habit that is tough to kick.

I bet food tasted much better now though....

You said a mouth full (bad joke)

I've been fighting the weight gain. Drinking tons of water and going low carb. Did the weigh in the other day and only went up five pounds. I told the in-laws that I wanted a workout membership for Christmas and then New Years day, the rest of the smokes go in the trash.

I don't know why, but my taste didn't change nor did I gain any weight. Then again I haven't gained but a few pounds since high school(10 years). I can eat just about anything and stay the same weight. Damn metabolism.

Lucky Metabolism!

I was the same until I joined the Army. Most of my life I could eat anything and not gain a pound. 6 years in the Army and I came out running 10 miles a day, smoking and having to watch my weight. I never took up drinking thank goodness and kept the smoking under a little control.
Back then we didn't know that smoking was a bad thing. Cigs use to come in our c-rats. Should have used common sense but never put two and two together. It's never to late to make things right. At least I laid off of the booze. Too many friends ended up on the sauce and drugs from that time.

Congrats to anyone who quits. I can honestly say that I have NEVER once even tried smoking! I've always said if I lived to be a 1,000 I could never understand how people can do this. I also tell people that the muscle cars we have owned over the years all came about from money never spent on smokes. My wife and I both have never smoked, therefore we do a rough calculation and figure our cars cost us less than smoking over the last 20 years that we have been together (we are both 38). Anyways, congrats and I would have to imagine you will feel better physically as well within a short period of time.

Well I have put them down all the way and it's rough!!!! This first week has been the week that never ends. I've been sticking to it though. Thought I would be eating a lot but no apatite and a head ache that would kill a horse.

Not going to let it beat me though. Staying cold turkey as long as I can but will go see the doc if things get worse or at least before I start back.

Just an update.
