low temp thermostat

I ordered a low temp 180 degree thermostat by Jet. Does anyone know the benefits of these other than your engine running cooler and possibley releasing horsepower, or is that about it. I only paid $30 for it.

This may be a dumb question but with the low temp thremostat how hot does your engine run? Mine is an average of 220 degrees. Sometimes hotter depending on how hard and how much I drove it.

depending on what you want i for, but most lower temp t-stats are acquired to prevent dreaded heat soak that causes a loss of hp and time on the track...unless you plan on hitting the track alot then the stock t-stat is good enough for you...

BUT

If you go the t-stat way, just know a fan mod of some sort will definitely be needed.
