After a week of burning up in my car I finally got the car fixed at my oh so busy dealership. AC controls weren working at all. Found that it was something called a Zener Diode. Was told by the technician that it wasnt even there!! How did this happen I dont know because I havent did anything to the car lately. For those who dont know what this is heres the definition the dealer gave me:
A zener diode is a special kind of diode which allows current to flow in the forward direction in the same manner as an ideal diode, but will also permit it to flow in the reverse direction when the voltage is above a certain value known as the breakdown voltage, "zener knee voltage" or "zener voltage."
The bill was 255.62. I still havent found exactly where its at but I know its in the back for sure. Just thought I'd share just in case someone else has this issue.
Now that's a definition that anyone can understand. " Hey dealership guy, can you dumb it down a bit ?" LOL.
Just lower it.
LOL I know right I didnt know what he was talking about. Wish they wouldve gave me a location on it though.
Glad to hear ac working

Glad to hear you have your AC back. Just in time for Summer heat!
FYI: A diode acts with electricity in the same way that a check valve does with water. It allows flow in only one direct (no back flowing).
The Zener Diode just has that special characteristic in what was described.

Wow sounds like bs coming from the dealer. You know explain something simple in a way that know one understands so they can charge you for it. It probably was like a loose wire or something and they are giving a "good" name to stealership

Ok - so where IS this located at on our cars?
You can't always control who walks into your life, but, you can control which window you throw them out of.
I have no idea and of course I couldnt get the answer from the dealership. Sons of Bs
My ac died in phx w 115the degree weather, no power to resistor or working blower. My mechanic also said my 05 magnum was missing A diode. He replaced and, voila, it works. The strange part is that the ac has been working fine until last week, without the diode, what? Where is tthis 4$ part? Thx tt
Found out where it was people!!!! It is located in the back fuse box in the lower left hand corner. It will have a little diode symbol on it. Hope this helps. Will post a pic when i get back home off of vacation
Not sure this is the same issue but my Dodge Ram only blows cold air when I'm driving. When I'm idle or at a light, no cold air. Would this be a "diode" issue?
I can swallow two pieces of string and an hour later...they come out of my a$$ tied together. I $hit you knot!!!
More than likely its a radiator fan issue. I think the rams have a separate fan for the the ac radator coil . Should be easy to jumper the fan relay to see if it works. This was an issue with my mag when both fans went out. The only time it would cool is when you were driving.
