We are trying to put togther some side events on Saturday for our friends who will be in Austin next weekend for the Heat Wave carshow. Let me first share what Austin is like on weekends like this (using past Heat Waves, UT home games & The Republic Of Tx (ROT) bike rally as examples)
I-35 is crazy during events weekends like this. If you can avoid 35 and the places along there, do so. Thre 290 & I35 area hotels are usually extremely packed, though it is a great place to watch and be seen. 6th street is totally packed and there is a near zero tolerance for rowdyness on these weekends. These gathering spots are on the nw side of town, only because there is nothing along Mopac/Loop1.
Here are the ideas so far that were discussed in Houston. Please speak up if there are issues or better ideas.
Saturday:
Breakfast @ Rudy's NW location 9:00 am. (Only about 15-20 minutes form the expo center. Mostly highway) This one is right on 183 @ Duval Rd just past the Arboretum.

After breakfast, we can parade together to the show and try to park together.
Enjoy your day at the show or where ever.
Dinner at Hooters (NW Austin location)6:30pm (leave expo grounds about 5:45 considering traffic) Is this too early or do you think you will be ready to get off your feet and into the AC about then?
When I got back from the Space City M&G I stopped in to see what it was like on a Saturday night. It looked good for what we want. I spoke to Stephen (mgr) who will be there next Saturday night. I explained that we were hosting a goup of VIP's from the show and wanted to have a place to relaxz and kick back a few. He seemed extremely supportive of having us there. I guessed between 20-30 folks plus their cars. He said he would prepare the parking lot for us and have girls on hand to pose with them.

If we still want to socialize there is a nice parking lot on the way back towards I-35. It is well lit and easily accessible on & off 183. It is not in a place that the show crowd will be around. If we don't make too much noise, we probably won't be bothered. There are no residences with in ears shot. It is a newly vacant
Home Depot on 183 @ Great Hill blvd. Any other ideas for locations?

What I ask of you is:
1) Is this plan ok? If not please suggest other specifics?
2) Let me know pretty quick if you want to go to Hooters so the Mgr can set schedules for his staff accordingly. I promised to call with a head count on Wednesday.
3) Be safe and have a great time.
