Yes,they are. Theres a couples of good write ups on lxforum.Do a search. One way is to remove the tab and the other is to replace the switch ($50.00). Read the articles first.

 

Yes there is a great write up in the forums mentioned. Forget the new switch, just D.I.Y. it takes what maybe 5 minutes if you take your time? :winking-r

I took a different route. Instead of removing the tab on the switch i removed the plastic piece from the back of the knob. I took less than 2 minutes.

I took the route of cutting out some on the switch cap also.

Do this test first, It requires no cutting or modding.
Just remove the cap and turn the switch all the way to the left.

Pull the switch dial cap off of the switch (you may need to pull really hard but it will come off).

Turn the dial counter clockwise all the way.

If it goes one more click to the left, past the off position you have an auto position (that is auto).

When the switch is in auto the lights will come on with the ignition switch on (for those without the dash mounted photo sensor).
On my RT I have the sensor so I need the combination of the engine running and dark enough conditions for the auto lights to come on.

Do the following mod to the switch cap to enable this feature...
Examine the switch cap and the pitted area around the light switch on the dash.

Basically the switch cap needs to be able to turn to the left most "auto" position.

You can either remove the small little stop tab in the pit or cut some of the plastic off of the switch cap.

I hope this made sense for everyone. I just did this mod about 2 weeks ago.

I know this is an old post ... but i am curious to know... will this work on any model magnum ? i have an 06 sxt... if i follw you correct Bigal ...
its the headlight knob right? which when all the way to the left is off ....sorry a bit slow... all i have to do is somehow pull off that know take out the tab...place it back on and i'm good to go ???

well you fella's were right. i put it in the garage and they came on. cool. any other cool mods that are simple to do?

 

Stupid question...... The sensor is in the center of the dash close to the windshield isn't it? I'm sure it is (I had a chevy that had it there), but never hurts to ask.

I just did this to mine, it was so simple. Just pull the knob off and cut off the little piece that stops the know from turning to the left. slapped it back on and i was good to go. thanks for the tips guys!

 

If anyone wants this mod but doesn't want to modifiy the switch on there own, I have one you can have for only the cost of shipping (since I added the fog light kit, I got a new switch).

Hey I just did this mod today, piece of cake just pulled the knob off and shaved that little tab of inside the switch. Took two minutes literally, works as described with the sensor for darkness. Also when I had my pcm updated got the 'lights on with wipers' upgrade which only works with auto lights so its like I got two mods in one! Its the law out here in cali to have lights on w/ wipers now

I have an 06 SXT does this work on all mags.

I put out a quick test procedure. It only takes seconds to determine if yours will work.

 

It should work for any mag, but if you don't have the sensor the lights will be on when you start the car (not just when it gets dark). I'm still trying to find out if you can add the sensor, and get the fully functional auto lights.

 

theres sooooo much u can do to these cars for next to nothing! I dont know why n e one has one completely stock!

 

Just an FYI...... If you don't already have the light sensor, don't bother with trying to get and install one. I've looked over the schematics, and it doesn't look to be possible to hook one up. Oh well, I'm still happy with the mod the way it is.

 

Man it is hard to pull the knob off. i tried 10 min and could not get it off. WTF do they glue them in at the factory. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated Thanks.

 

Just grip it and rip it.
It is seems like it won't come off but it will.
Pull as hard as you need to get it off.
