Today while under heavy acceleration from a 10 mph roll w/ transmission in drive, my Maggie was about to up shift when it kept going - bounced off the rev limiter and went into NEUTRAL w/ the shifter still in drive. Kept rolling, still in drive, motor revving, no forward power.
Put in neutral.... Shut off & restarted twice before tranny power came back.
Thoughts?

It's called "limp mode" and it's the transmissions way of protecting itself from potential damage when something doesn't go as planned, like hitting the rev limiter. After a minute or 2, the car should restart and return to normal operation.........No harm, no foul. You can have the fluid checked, etc. but what happened to you is pretty common.

Thanks, just wanted to be sure. Limp mode, well I'll be darned.
PS had the tranny fluid filter changed 6 months ago. BTW, since the tranny has no dipstick what's the proper way to check its fluid level?

The fluid level is dependant on temperature. It's best to take it to someone who has the ability to check the temperature and level. Once you know it's good, if there's not a leak, you should be fine.

Once you get the tranny level set properly, buy a really big Zip tie at home Depot, and you can mark it at hot / level / in gear.
Also mark it at cold / level running in gear.
With those two measurements, you can always figure out where you ne3ed to be.

Ah ha. Asked a tech - said he did something similar (dipstick for another tranny) to check at work @dealer.
